Summary Comparative studies on the use of an Enzyme‐linked Irnmunosorbent Assay (ELISA) for the Dethction of Antibodies against the Avian Encephalomyelitis‐Virus (AEV) The present work was concerned with assessing an ELISA on the basis of a partially purified and concentrated AEV‐antigen from infected embryonic brain tissue. In comparison with the agar‐gel‐precipitin‐test (AGP), virus neutralization test and embryo susceptibility test it was shown that the ELISA is sensitive enough to ensure a quantitative result. The method is more sensitive than AGP. The ELISA is suitable for the routine diagnosis of AEV‐antibodies in chicken sera. The storage of antigen‐covered prepared ELISA plates is possible for 4 weeks at 4 °C and for 5 weeks at −20 °C.
