Schlüsselwörter: Stute, Retentio secundinarum, 4-Stufen-Programm, Pododermatitis acuta toxica puerperalis, Rehe, Rückblick Treatment of retained placenta in broadmares in a 4-step-routine -review of 36 casesIn 36 cases of retained placenta in broadmares of different breeds factors that might be associated with retained placenta, different forms (total, partial and Microretentio secundinarum), incidence of subsequent lamin...
Schlüsselwörter: Lactatio neonatorum, Fohlen, potentielle Genese, therapeutische Ansätze Lactatio neonatorum in a Fjordhorse fillyA Fjordhorse filly is presented with recurrent appearance of precocious mammary gland development and lactation at the age of eight month. In the previous year directly after parturition this foal had already exhibit an obvious swelling of mammary gland including secretory activity, which continued for four months. At the time of examination the udder shows a size of 5 x 15 x 15 cm and a tender consistency. Signs of inflammation are absent. Out of the prominent teats a white secretion with milk character is ejected. The composition of the fluid corresponds with that of adult mares, with slightly reduced concentration of lactose and total protein. All clinical and laboratory parameters are in the reference intervals. Results of 12,8 pg per ml for estradiol-17ß, 0,2 ng per ml for progesterone and 39,2 ng per ml for cortisol can be measured. According to the first appearance of mammary gland development and lactation the clinical signs ease off after four weeks without therapy. Different approaches of genesis and therapy will be discussed.
