This paper illustrares rhe synergic advantages of a multi-modal object localization s y t e m utilizing vision and sound localization. Prototype vision and sound localization sysrems were developed and integrated using spatial probabilig maps, which allon, any number of cameras or microphones with arbitran orientation to be easily integrated. Tesr resulrs show a signi~canr improvement in the inregrated vision and sound localizmion (IVSL) system's ability to accurately localize objects in low signal to noise situations.Furthermore. the performance of the IVSL system was shown to surpass that of the individual sub-system.
