Рассматривается иммобилизация клеток оксигенных фототрофных микроорганиз-мов -цианобактерий и эукариотических микроводорослей -в природе и в искусствен-ных системах. В обзоре подчеркивается, что существование клеток микроорганизмов в прикрепленном состоянии, например, в составе биопленок, является широко распро-страненной в природе стратегией, обеспечивающей выживание клеток. Таким образом, искусственно иммобилизованные клетки оксигенных фототрофных микроорганизмов можно рассматривать как особую группу биомиметических материалов. Особое внимание уделено изучению влияния различных способов иммобилизации на физиологическое состояние клеток цианобактерий и микроводорослей, их устойчивость к стрессовым воз-действиям, а также продуктивность культур, находящихся в иммобилизованном состоя-нии. В обзоре проводится анализ преимуществ и недостатков современных методов им-мобилизации и используемых в настоящее время носителей. Освещаются возможности применения иммобилизованных культур оксигенных фототрофных микроорганизмов в различных областях биотехнологии, таких как получение биомассы и ценных метаболи-тов, сбор биомассы, очистка водных акваторий и сточных вод от тяжелых металлов, из-бытка биогенных элементов и органических загрязнителей.

To cope with fluctuating phosphorus (P) availability, cyanobacteria developed diverse acclimations, including luxury P uptake (LPU)—taking up P in excess of the current metabolic demand. LPU is underexplored, despite its importance for nutrient-driven rearrangements in aquatic ecosystems. We studied the LPU after the refeeding of P-deprived cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. PCC 7118 with inorganic phosphate (Pi), including the kinetics of Pi uptake, turnover of polyphosphate, cell ultrastructure, and gene expression. The P-deprived cells deployed acclimations to P shortage (reduction of photosynthetic apparatus and mobilization of cell P reserves). The P-starved cells capable of LPU exhibited a biphasic kinetic of the Pi uptake and polyphosphate formation. The first (fast) phase (1–2 h after Pi refeeding) occurred independently of light and temperature. It was accompanied by a transient accumulation of polyphosphate, still upregulated genes encoding high-affinity Pi transporters, and an ATP-dependent polyphosphate kinase. During the second (slow) phase, recovery from P starvation was accompanied by the downregulation of these genes. Our study revealed no specific acclimation to ample P conditions in Nostoc sp. PCC 7118. We conclude that the observed LPU phenomenon does not likely result from the activation of a mechanism specific for ample P conditions. On the contrary, it stems from slow disengagement of the low-P responses after the abrupt transition from low-P to ample P conditions.

The microalga Haematococcus pluvialis is a biotechnologically important microorganism producing a ketocarotenoid astaxanthin. Haematococcus exists either as metabolically active vegetative cells with a high chlorophyll content or astaxanthin-rich haematocysts (aplanospores). This microalga featuring outstanding tolerance to a wide range of adverse conditions is a highly suitable model for studies of freezing tolerance in phototrophs. The retention of H. pluvialis cell viability after freezing-thawing is ascribed to elevated antioxidant enzyme activity and high ketocarotenoid content. However, we report that only haematocysts characterized by a lower photosynthetic activity were resistant to freezingthawing even without cryoprotectant addition. The key factors of haematocyst freezing tolerance were assumed to be a low water content, rigid cell walls, reduction of the membranous structures, photosynthesis downregulation, and low chlorophyll content. Collectively, viability of Haematoccus after freezing-thawing can be improved by forcing the transition of vegetative cells to freeze-tolerant haematocysts before freezing.
