Critical and creative thinking skills are an essential attribute for success in the 21st century. This study aimed to determine the students’ critical and creative thinking skills in the Islamic senior high schools of Surakarta City so that teachers can pay attention to the strength and weakness of each student based on gender differences. This study used descriptive qualitative analysis. The subject of this study amounted to 180 students consisting of 80 male and 100 female students. The measurement of critical-thinking skills used a 6-essay-question instrument of the chemical material of electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions that measures the aspects based on Facione theory, namely: analysis, inference, explanation, interpretation, evaluation, and self-regulation. Then, to measure creative-thinking skills, a 4-essay-question test instrument of the chemical material that includes 4 aspects according to Torrance, fluency, flexibility, original and elaboration, was used. The results showed that the creative-thinking skills of male students are better than those of female students and the critical-thinking skills of female students are better than those of male students.
Purpose of the study: The purpose of this review is to determine the extent to which the effective use of multi-media in strengthening character education to help students understand the character values contained in the subject matter.
Methodology: The method used is a literature review of the results of previous studies, which are related to improving character education in schools. The components of the literature review that became the center of attention include a) multi-media development, b) strengthening character education, c) and the relationship between multi-media development and strengthening character education.
Main Findings: The findings indicate that effective multi-media reinforcement of character education is significantly assisting students in comprehending the implicit learning goals included in the lessons taught in terms of values by character building.
Application of this study: The implication is to develop multi-media strengthening character education (KDP) in elementary schools will be able to form individuals who have the character to be a golden generation of Indonesia in 2045 with 21st-century skills.
Novelty/Originality of this study: Multimedia development is used so that character learning in the world of education can run effectively. The development of multi-media reinforcement of character education (PPK) requires synergy between teacher understanding, school infrastructure, and student participation in receiving learning material.
The development of the world of education is entering a very important period. Not only to provide quality and optimal education services. But it is also an important period that will determine the continuation of education itself. The mastery of abilities and skills needed by the future is the responsibility of the education world. The future with the construction of Community 5.0 requires schools to transform teacher-centered learning into student-centered learning so that students can think critically, deductively, and inductively in learning science in the era of disruption. Learning system through rote learning is not following the learning paradigm, which emphasizes cognitive understanding. Therefore, an appropriate learning model is needed to overcome the problem of the discrepancy of the paradigm of community learning 5.0. As a strategic stage of achieving competence, learning activities need to be designed and implemented effectively and efficiently to obtain maximum results. One research method that can be done to develop a learning model by applying the steps of the Research and Development (R & D) research procedure. Conceptual models that have been developed in welcoming 5.0 are Social Inquiry Complex (ISC), and Creativity-Based Learning Skill Entrepreneurship (CEL-BaDiS).
Science generic skill is very important for students to solve every problem in learning processes and daily life. The purpose of this research was to explore the students' needs of the chemistry module based on search, solve, create, and share (SSCS) to increase science generic skills. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. There were 61 students in XI Grade from two Senior High Schools at Surakarta. The data were collected using questionnaires sheets, interviews, and materials analysis. The research revealed that the module and teaching materials used in the schools have not empowered the science generic skills maximally; also, the teachers remained to adopt discourse method which resulted in a teacher-centered learning. Such learning made the learning activities seemed monotonous, uninteresting, and less motivated the students in building concepts. Thus, the students required alternative teaching materials to increase their science generic skills. In sum, it is necessary to develop a chemistry module on the atomic structure which oriented to the SSCS.
