Abstract. The phase correlation method is a well-known image alignment technique with broad applications in medical image processing, image stitching, and computer vision. This method relies on estimating the maximum of the phase-only correlation (POC) function, which is defined as the inverse Fourier transform of the normalized cross-spectrum between two images. The coordinates of the maximum correspond to the translation between the two images. One of the main drawbacks of this method, in its basic form, is that the location of the maximum can only be obtained with integer accuracy. In this paper, we propose a new technique to estimate the location with subpixel accuracy, by minimizing the magnitude of gradient of the POC function around a point near the maximum. We also present some experimental results where the proposed method shows an increased accuracy of at least one order of magnitude with respect to the base method. Finally, we illustrate the application of the proposed algorithm to the rigid registration of digital images.
This paper presents efficient of IF decimation filters architecture using Pipelinehterleaving (PI) technique in which the amount of multiplications is reduced by 50%. The decimation filters are important blocks in Software Radio terminals to process different communications standards like GSM, IS-95, and UMTS. These kinds of blocks are needed to process the I, and Q components on the digital down-converter. The proposed architecture is evaluated by MATLABB. This evaluation shows that the proposed structures can be utilized in a multimode fashion. The frequency response of the decimator filter for each standard is analyzed and the frequency response for the decimator filter using PI architectures is also evaluated. The new architecture offers saving of 50% the amount of multiplications compare to the traditional implementation.
The growing elderly population living independently demands remote systems for health monitoring. Falls are considered recurring fatal events and therefore have become a global health problem. Fall detection systems based on WiFi radio frequency signals still have limitations due to the difficulty of differentiating the features of a fall from other similar activities. Additionally, the antenna orientation has not been taking into account as an influencing factor of classification performance. Therefore, we present in this paper an analysis of the classification performance in relation to the antenna orientation and the effects related to polarization and radiation pattern. Furthermore, the implementation of a device-free fall detection platform to collect empirical data on falls is shown. The platform measures the Doppler spectrum of a probe signal to extract the Doppler signatures generated by human movement and whose features can be used to identify falling events. The system explores two antenna polarization: horizontal and vertical. The accuracy reached by horizontal polarization is 92% with a false negative rate of 8%. Vertical polarization achieved 50% accuracy and false negatives rate.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
