Zu der Antwort von Prof. Pommer habe ich folgendes zu bemerken: Ich m6chte nur noch einmal darauf hinweisen, dal~ die Tabellen nur in ganz lockerem Zusammenhang mit der Arbeit stehen und dab ich zuerst beabsichtigte, iiberhaupt nur m ei n e vie r B a k t e r i e n, fiber die ich gearbeitet habe, zu bringen, wie yon Hibler in seinen Tabellen nur seine 15 Arten. Nur das Fehlen einer Ubersicht in den Lehrbiichern hatte reich veranlaBt, meine Tabellen zu ver6ffentIichen, trotz ihrer Unvollst~ndigkeit. Darum sind auch die 88 Arten, die n i c h t Gas bflden, nicht vonder Liste gestrichen worden. Das Wort ,,ungentigend" mu[3 in dem Sinne aufgefai3t werden, wie ich es anwende. Solange noch beinahe jeder Forscher, welcher mit Anaeroben arbeitet, Verbesserungen angibt, der eine bei dieser, der andere bei jener Methode, so lange haben wir noch keine geniigende Methode. Ich babe nicht behauptet, dab nicht schon Reinkulturen erhalten worden sind, sondern nur dab dies bis jetzt noch nicht leicht und sicher gelingt, dab es also einen Zweck hat, unsere alten Methoden noch zu verbessern. Gegentiber Prof. H e i m gilt die zuletzt gemachte ]~uBerung ebenfalls, er selber bringt noch Verbesserungen an seiner Methode an. Des ferneren wifft er mir vor, da[~ ich nicht sein, sondern seine Plattenverfahren angreife. Ich muB dagegen sagen, dab ich das darum getan habe, weft die beiden Plattenverfahren in Wiirckers Arbeit und in seiner Arbeit (Centralblatt fiir Bakteriologie Bd. 55) beschrieben sind. Da mir die Nachteile des Pyrogallolplattenverfahrens nach meinen fffiheren Versuchen nicht an dem Verschlul3, sondern an der leichten M6glichkeit einer Verunreinigung der Kulturgef~Be zu liegen schienen, habe ich wie von Hibler dieses Verfahren nicht weiter getibt, sondern ich habe mich der Botkinschen Methode zugewendet. Nicht richtig ist ferner, dab ich die Schl~uche ,,entgegen der Gepflogenheit" nicht mit Paraffin iiberzogen habe. Allerdings babe ich
