Oeta-methylporphin 3 ist bis jetzt das einzige symmetriscli substituierte Porphin, und dieses entstand nach den bisherigen Methoden nur in schlechter Ausbente. Seiner naheren Untersuchung war dazu noch die auflerordentliche Schwerlaslichkeit hinderlich. Aue diesem Grunde haben wir uns zunachst bemiiht, das Octa-athylporphin zu synthetisieren, in der Erwartung, daS durch den Austauscli der Methyl-gegen Athylreste die Loslichkeitsverhaltnisse und Schmelzpunkt giinstiger liigen, eine Erwartung, die auf Gtruna der Erfahrungen an einfachen Pyrrolen durchaus berechtigt war?) Als Ausgangsmaterial muflte ein Pyrrol mit zwei Athylgruppen in @-Stellung und einer Methylgruppe in a-Stellung dienen, dessen Reaktionsfahigkeit an sich schon interessiert, weil derartige Pyrrole bis jetzt unbekaniit sind. Zu diesem Zwecke kondensierten wir Propionylessigester uber die Isonitrosoverbindung auf reduktivem Wege mit Acetylaceton und gelangten so zum 2-Methyl-3acetyl-4-uthyl-Icarbathozypyr~~ol (I). Durch Reduk tion nach \To 1 f f -K i s h n e r entstand dann das 2 -Methyl -3,I-diiifhylpyrrol, ein geeignetes Ausgangsmaterial fur obiges Porphyrin. Fischer und Baunrler, Synthese des Octa-atliylporphins. 59und Athylmagnesinmjodid umstandlich herzustellen l), und wir beniitzten deshalb das schon fruher synthetisierte 2 -Methyl -3carblthoxy -4-&thy]-6propioirylpyrrol, wobei Isonitroso-dipropionylmethan nnd Acetessigester der ublichen Knorrschen Synthese unterworfen wurden.2) Mit Hilfe von Schwefelsaure 1aOt sich hieraus das 2-Methyl-4-lthylpyrrol gewinnen, in das ein ct-Csrbithoxyrest eingefuhrt wird nnd nunmehr nach F r i e d e l -C r a f t s der /I-Acetylrest. Dnrch Rednktion nach W o I f f -K i s h n e r wurde so wiederum das 2-Methyl-3,4-dilthylpyrrol erhalten. Anch dieser Weg erwies sich als nmstindlich; insbesondere gelingt die F r i e d e l -Craftssche Synthese befriedigend nur bei kleinen Ansatzen nnd wir arbeiteten deshalb ein nenes Verfahren aus, das in sehr guter Ansbente obiges Pyrrol znginglich machte. Dipropionylmethan kondensierten wir iiber die Isonitrosoverbindung anf reduktivem R e g e mit Acetylaceton und erhielten so 2-Methyl -3-acetyl-4-ithyl-5-propionylpyrrol. Da im allgemeinen die e-Substitnenten in der Pyrrolreihe lockerer gebunden sind als die @-Substitnenten, erschien es moglich, mit Hilfe von konz. Schwefelsaure den a-Proyionylrest zu entfernen, ohne daD der Acetylrest abgespalten wurde. Innerhalb sehr enger Temperaturgrenzen gelang es in der Tat, auf diesem Wege das 2-Methyl-3-acetyl-4-athylpyrrol (111) zu erhalten, das dann bei der Reduktion in der ublichen Weise d...
Von W i 11s t t t e r sind zahlreiche hochmolekulare Abbauprodukte des Chlorophylls erhalten worden, die Phaophorbide, die Chlorine und Rhodine, im Vergleich zum Hamin sauerstoffreiche Korper. Sie stehen noch in mehr oder weniger nahen Beziehungen zum Chlorophyll und ihre Konstitutionsaufklarung ist wichtig. W i l l s t a t t e r hat die oben genannten Korper mit Hilfe von alkoholischem Kali in Porphyrine iibergefiihrt , i n Mono-und zahlreiche Dicarbonsauren, die durch eine Untersuchung von T r e i b s und W i e d e m a n n auf eine einfachere Basis gestellt worden sind. Nur vier Porphyrine sind nach W i l l s t a t t e r s Methoden isolierbar, die zweicarboxyligen, Verdo-und Rhodoporphyrin, und die eincarboxyligen, Pyrro-und Phylloporphyrin.Wir haben uns zunachst zum Ziel gesetzt, Porphyrine mit hoherem Sauerstoffgehalt zu gewinnen, ein Problem, das nach verschiedenen Richtungen hin Interesse bietet. Znnachst einmal ist die Anzahl der Carboxylgruppen ini Chlorophyll noch nicht exakt bewiesen; W i l l s t a t t e r nimmt drei an. Die Kenntnis der Porphyrine ist nun durch die Synthese weit vorangeschritten, Porphin-tri-und -tetrapropionsluren sind bekannt; sie sind durch groI3e Stabilitat ausgezeichnet, ihre Carboxylgruppen haften fest.
