About 50 % of the proven natural gas reserves are remote from any sizable market. The economic utilization of this natural gas is limited by the high cost of transportation. An option to bring remote natural gas onto the market is its conversion by the Fischer‐Tropsch synthesis to higher hydrocarbons which eliminates the need for cryogenic transportation, equipment and tankage. As an interesting alternative to common cost‐intensive Fischer‐Tropsch processes currently in progress, a low‐cost concept for the conversion of natural gas to liquid hydrocarbons based on nitrogen‐rich synthesis gas is proposed in the present paper.
