Casas de apoio são unidades residenciais que acolhem viajantes em busca de tratamento de saúde, sobretudo em cidades referências em bens e serviços de saúde. O público-alvo desses espaços de acolhimento costuma ser pessoas que não dispõem de meios para se manter fora de seu entorno habitual. Apesar de os estudos da hospitalidade potencialmente contribuírem com a gestão desses espaços com vistas a um acolhimento humanizado aos hóspedes, pesquisadores do turismo e da hospitalidade pouco têm explorado esse objeto de estudo. Outras áreas do saber, por sua vez, têm se dedicado mais ao estudo das casas de apoio com ênfase na qualidade de vida e experiência dos pacientes e acompanhantes. Neste artigo, analisam-se as contribuições teóricas da hospitalidade sobre as relações entre anfitriões de casas de apoio e seus hóspedes por meio das práticas culturais de recepcionar, hospedar, alimentar e entreter. Por meio de uma pesquisa qualitativa em casas de apoio, em São Luís, Maranhão, constatou-se que as casas de apoio são espaços formados por anfitriões que demonstram a virtude da hospitabilidade em todos os tempos da hospitalidade. Isto é, reconhecem que o bem-estar de seus hóspedes também pode estar associado a todos os momentos da estada na casa de apoio. Outra constatação relevante, que fica como reflexão para formadores de políticas públicas, é percepção dos anfitriões sobre a relevância do entretenimento para os hóspedes; até mesmo quem ainda não oferece esse serviço reconhece sua importância, por isso articulam-se em busca de parceiros para tal.
Este artigo analisa as relações de hospitalidade entre a gestão de unidades de conservação e seus stakeholders envolvidos com o turismo, com ênfase em suas possíveis influências na competitividade dos destinos. Os objetos de estudo são três áreas protegidas localizadas no Nordeste brasileiro: Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses, Parque Nacional de Jericoacoara e a Área de Proteção Ambiental Delta do Parnaíba. Foi desenvolvido um estudo de casos múltiplos, com abordagens qualitativa e quantitativa, tendo como fontes de evidências entrevistas semiestruturadas, observação assistemática e survey. Verificou-se que há uma relação de dependência de stakeholders, como a dos condutores de turismo com a gestão desses locais, por meio do compromisso com as normas previstas pelo credenciamento como base para a prestação do serviço. As relações de hospitalidade entre o anfitrião e seus stakeholders ligados ao turismo favorecem a existência de um ambiente de confiança mútua, influenciando diretamente na capacidade de gestão das unidades de conservação e na percepção de competitividade dos destinos. Foi comprovado também que as relações de hospitalidade reforçam as intenções de retorno dos visitantes.
