Hunger and poverty countermeasure was appointed to be the first target in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) global mandate. It is relevant with Indonesia’s condition in the last three years in which the amount of poverty-stricken people grew significantly. To boost the population’s economy to a sustainable level, Solo’s City Government try to give more space to the informal sectors in the city. This policy doesn’t aim to improve the economy quantitatively but also equitably by facilitating the informal sectors, so that they can compete with the formal sectors that are dominated by the “big companies” as in nearly every big city in Indonesia.

One of the growing informal sectors is the street vendors. Relocation and stabilization are the two programs run by the Surakarta government to give a better chance for the street vendors to survive the competition with the formal sectors. Hundreds even thousands of street vendors in Solo has been regulated to empower the city’s local economy. The factors that influence the success of the street vendor regulation isn’t only perceived from the city’s aesthetics, which always became the main reason, but also perceived from the quality growth in activity performance after the program has been done to ensure sustainability.
The success of the street vendor regulation must be seen from the street vendor’s perspective. Unique character and street vendor behavior that vary richly must be known to ensure the street vendors can accept the planned program. In order to point out the location character role in the city’s spatial arrangement strategy, the focal point of this research is exploring the factors that influence street vendor regulation adjusting with the needs and demands of street vendors
One of the concrete steps of waste management that can be felt directly by the community in a small scope is the Waste Bank. However, the community often faces problems in managing waste through waste banks, namely related to limited human resources and facilities. The Guyub Rukun Dusun Madugondo waste e Bank is a waste bank that is experiencing problems with limited human resources and facilities. Efforts are needed to overcome the limitations of human resources and facilities so that the waste bank is able to continue to grow. Therefore, this community service activity is carried out to help overcome these problems by providing training methods to improve the managerial skills of waste bank managers and innovation in processing waste into creative economic products as well as providing supporting facilities grants. The training was carried out with waste bank management materials and making flower arrangements from recycled plastic waste materials. Meanwhile, the grant for supporting facilities is realized in the form of a waste press. The results of these community service activities can be felt directly by the waste bank manager and can reduce the problems faced by the Guyub Rukun Dusun Madugondo waste Bank manager.
Covid-19 has a significant risk of spreading in urban areas because of the aglomeration of built-up areas and people. It frequently contains a mix of land uses and is accessible to urban amenities. Due to the area’s extensive usage of mixed land uses, it is better able to provide internal urban services on its own. Greater use of area lockdown and social separation strategies could result from this situation. The most populous city in the province of Central Java, Surakarta, has a significant risk of contracting COVID-19. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of density and levels of mixed land use on the Covid-19 distribution in Surakarta City.Population density is used to calculate density. The entropy index approach was used to measure the amount of mixed land use. It is a method for calculating the balance between each form of land use. The availability of current land use data being processed by the spatial analysis with the Arc GIS application provided help for the analysis. Additionally, it makes use of information on Covid-19 cases in relation to the general populace that is supplied by the Surakarta Municipality. The relationship between mixed land use and Covid-19 risk was analyzed using a linear regression approach. The study’s findings indicated a minor influence between density and the spread of COVID-19. Meanwhile, the level of mixed land use does not influence the spread of the Covid-19 virus in Surakarta City.
