Palavras-chave: fosfato natural, adubação fosfatada, extrator químico Availability and critical levels of phosphorus in maize and soils fertilized with phosphate sources AB S TR ACTThis study had as objective to evaluate the availability and the critical levels of phosphorus in maize plants, by different chemical extractors, in two soils (Ultisol and Oxisol) with different phosphorus (P) adsorption capacity factor and fertilized with Gafsa rock phosphate or triple superphosphate. The results showed that Mehlich-1, Mehlich-3 and Bray-1 were equally efficient in the evaluation of P availability in the treatments with triple superphosphate. For the rock phosphate only the extractors Mehlich-3 and Bray-1 were adequate in this evaluation. The highest values of critical level in the soil, with exception of the Mehlich-1, were observed in soils fertilized with triple superphosphate. The critical level of phosphorus in the shoot dry matter was inversely correlated with the capacity factor of soil and directly correlated with the solubility of the phosphorus source. The necessary dose to reach this critical level was directly correlated with the capacity factor and inversely correlated with the solubility of the source. The triple superphosphate provided higher concentration of P in the shoot dry matter and was more efficient than rock phosphate in the production of dry matter in the Oxisol.
Phosphorus adsorption in ten soils from Pernambuco State and its relations with physical and chemical parameters. An experiment was carried out to study phosphorus (P) adsorption in ten soil samples from Pernambuco State, Northeastern Brazil. The relationship between physical and chemical soil attributes and P adsorption isotherms were also evaluated. The results showed that maximum phosphorus adsorption capacity (MPAC), remaining P (Rem-P) and the k constant of the Freundlich equation are reliable variables to characterize P adsorption by the soils. Due to its easy determination, Rem-P is the best indicated variable. The parameters of P adsorption MPAC, Rem-P and the k constant of the Freundlich equation showed correlation (p < 0.01) with the chemical attributes potential acidity (H+Al), exchangeable aluminum (Al), exchangeable cation capacity (ECC) and with the physical attributes clay and field capacity (FC). The variables FC, Rem-P, H+Al, Al, ECC and clay, among the chemical and physical attributes evaluated, allowed estimating the MPAC value on the studied soils. The P adsorption energy and the n constant of the Freundlich isotherm were not reliable indicators of the P soil adsorption power.
Crops in general make poor use of phosphorous fertilizer and, as a result, recommended rates and production costs are very high. Phosphorus can be made more readily available to plants by proper management of phosphate fertilization, selecting both, type of fertilizer and application method. This study was carried out to evaluate the efficiency of the natural Gafsa rock phosphate and the triple superphosphate on dry matter production and P uptake by corn plants cultivated in a greenhouse. Fertilizers were applied localized and broadcast/incorporated on to two soils with contrasting phosphorus capacity factors (PCF). Rock phosphate broadcast application was as efficient as triple superphosphate in increasing corn plant dry matter in the Tropudult, with lower PCF. This effect was not observed on the Haplustox, owing to the lower P solubility due to the higher Ca concentration in this soil. Triple superphosphate rates increased plant P uptake in both soils and for both application forms. Rock phosphate resulted in higher P-content in plants, but only for broadcast application on the Ultisol.
Palavras-chave: qualidade do solo, manejo do solo, vegetação nativa Physical attributes of soil under different uses with irrigation in semiarid Pernambuco ABSTRACT Soils in semiarid climate regions had been degraded by salinization, reducing their productive capacity. This work aimed to evaluate physical attributes of soil in an irrigated perimeter in the semiarid Northeast of Brazil and to compare different soil uses using these attributes. The study was carried out at Icó-Mandantes Irrigated Perimeter, between Petrolândia and Floresta, in semiarid region of Pernambuco, in which the populations were separated by their uses in annual crops (C), fruticulture (F), discarded lands (D), pasture (P), native vegetation (V). Undisturbed and disturbed soil samples were collected, in layers of 0-10, 10-30 and 30-60 cm, for physical analysis. The indicators were submitted to multivariate analysis, by Principal Component Analysis, and clustering by the Tocher method. The agricultural use promoted alterations in the physical attributes of soil in relation to soil under native vegetation. The soil quality for the physical attributes varied between the layers of 0-10 and 10-30 cm, except in use V, sohich presented similar quality in these layers. F and P uses had presented better physical soil quality than C use in the layers of 0-10 and 10-30 cm and D use presented the worst soil quality in the evaluated layers.
