O objetivo deste estudo é caracterizar e identificar os principais avanços tecnológicos em sistemas mecanizados para controle de plantas daninhas. O desenvolvimento de técnicas de agricultura de precisão como automatização dos sistemas de direcionamento, taxa variável e telemetria, proporciona o aumento da eficácia no uso de dados para as tomadas de decisões na regulagem de máquinas para aplicação de produtos fitossanitários. É imprescindível a utilização de métodos de baixo custo e alta eficiência que minimizem o uso desses produtos, que podem ser prejudiciais ao meio ambiente. Os estudos levantados na pesquisa demonstram que a grande parte das tecnologias desenvolvidas e eficientes são apenas para aplicações de produtos fitossanitários. Em situações específicas, é possível utilizar métodos elétricos, térmicos e sistemas mecânicos robotizados, os quais necessitam ainda de aprimoramento e estudos.
A conscientização da sociedade sobre a importância da alimentação saudável e dos benefícios que o azeite de oliva traz à saúde, têm aquecido a economia brasileira e motivado produtores, associações e empresas a investirem na implantação de novos olivais em todo o país. Em consequência, a cada nova safra ocorre a expansão da área de colheita, logo, dos custos de produção. Assim, levando em consideração que os custos de colheita representam um elevado percentual dos custos totais, é indispensável conhecer as características de cada método de colheita, e quais aspectos devem ser levados em consideração no momento de sua escolha. Para isso, o presente trabalho constitui-se de uma revisão narrativa descrevendo o estado da arte do cultivo de oliveiras com enfoque no processo de colheita, sob o ponto de vista teórico e contextual. Analisando criticamente, foi possível observar que os métodos de colheita manuais requerem abundância em mão de obra devido a sua baixa eficiência operacional. A colheita mecanizada, é uma alternativa a este problema, além de possibilitar redução dos custos de produção. No entanto, a escolha da colhedora ideal depende entre outros fatores, do objetivo de produção, da escala de área cultivada, bem como de mão de obra especializada.
