The results of analysis of optical pumping of a solid state laser with a high frequency train of pumping pulses are presented. In order to determine the effect of the various parameters of the pump on pumping effectiveness the population dynamics of the upper laser level were considered through application of a four level model of the active medium. Simple formulae have been derived for the maximum value of the initial gain coefficient attainable upon the n-th pumping pulse.A comparison of the efficiency of pulsed pumping with that of continuous pumping is presented. Finally the results of measurements of pulsed laser diode arrays are reported.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
