In this study have been developed, implemented, and validated an instrument (DSF-84) for assessing the functional and social performance of young male adults with lower limb amputees based on the ICF. The results show the validity and reliability of DSF-84 to young male adults with amputation of the lower limb, being useful for this population.
Practicing sports together with rehabilitative treatment improves the development of motor, social and emotional abilities of lower limb amputees. The aim of this study was to compare the functional and social performance of individuals with lower limb amputations between those who played soccer and those who did not engage in any sports activities. A total of 138 individuals participated in the study and were divided into two groups: soccer players (n = 69, 34 ± 8.1 years) and non-athletes (n = 69, 38 ± 8.9 years). A checklist, based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, was used. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square and Mann-Whitney tests. The soccer players group showed significantly better performance than the non-athletes group in most items of body function, body structure, occupational performance components and daily activities (p < 0.001 for all), and also in some important items of social and environment factors (p < 0.001 for all). The results strongly suggest that amputee soccer significantly improves the functional and social performance in individuals with lower limb amputations.
Abstract Introduction: The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is defined as peripheral neuropathy, caused by compression of the median nerve by a reduction of the carpal tunnel space. This pathology is characterized for a group of symptoms that usually include numbness, prickle or a feeling of “pinching”, burning and continuous pain in the fingers, that such manifesting can triggered difficulty in performing actions that are part of daily activities, can it is considered that CTS may lead to a failure to integrate the three elements of occupational performance. Objective: To analyze the occupational performance of individuals with CST. Materials and Methods: This is a quantitative, quasi-experimental, cross-sectional research that had as participants individuals diagnosed with CTS, attended by the Traumatology and Orthopedic Sector of a private hospital. Interviews were conducted with questions about the changes in their occupational performance after diagnosis of the pathology. Results/Discussion: The participants, mostly female, performed repetitive efforts, which contributed to the development of the pathology. Individuals reported difficulties in carrying out daily activities, which include the three categories of occupational performance: areas of performance, performance components and performance contexts. Conclusions: This study made possible the understanding about the neuropathy in question and instigated the realization of new research about the compromise in the occupational performance of the individuals. From this, it is emphasized the importance of the effective participation of Occupational Therapists in scientific events and the relevance of the presentation and publication of studies not only in Occupational Therapy events. Abstract There is still a lack of qualified studies that allow the debate on limitations, benefits and possible improvements in the conduct of Occupational Therapy in rehabilitation. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of specific approaches to Occupational Therapy based on activities of daily living, supplemented by kinesioactivity. Quantitative study, single case, female patient presenting left hemiparesis due to brain ischemia. Procedures approved by research ethics committee ICS-UFPA number 1.337.714, occurred over 20 sessions, twice a week, duration of 40 to 60 minutes per session. Three-time assessments: admission (1st session), re-evaluation (10th session) and discharge (20th session). Physical tests indicated the response to the treatment: tactile perception, degree of muscle strength and range of motion. The Functional Independence Measure promoted inferences about the recovery of functional abilities. The data generated were plotted in the Graph Pad Program, Prism - 6.0, Analysis of Variance, Tukey post - test, significance index: p 0.05. Column graphs. Physical tests were able to show important gains to occupational performance components such as tactile perception, muscle strength and range of motion. This also represented recovery of functional abilities impaired by the stroke, validated by Functional Independence Measure. The relevance of the association of different approaches and specific practice of Occupational Therapy promotes important physical and functional gains in the course of rehabilitation. Keywords: Activities of daily living; Kinesioactivity; Occupational Therapy; Rehabilitation; Stroke.
