A empatia é a capacidade de reconhecer e responder apropriadamente aos estados emocionais dos outros e está associada ao estabelecimento de interações sociais de qualidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a empatia em treinadores esportivos brasileiros por meio do Inventário de Empatia (IE), uma medida brasileira composta por 40 itens divididos em quatro fatores: "Tomada de Perspectiva" (TP), "Flexibilidade Interpessoal" (FI), "Altruísmo" (Al) e "Sensibilidade Afetiva" (SA). A Correlação de Pearson foi utilizada e foram encontradas diferenças significativas para os fatores: TP (p = 0,04) e a variável ex-atleta, SA (p = 0,01) e a variável experiência, FI e a variável nível competitivo (p= 0,03). Em conclusão, treinadores que não foram atletas atendem mais as exigências e compreendem melhor os seus atletas, treinadores menos experientes têm maior preocupação ou consideração pelas necessidades dos atletas e treinadores da iniciação esportiva têm mais facilidade em aceitar pontos de vista diferentes.
