When the electrostatic spraying is used correctly, it provides advantages over conventional systems, however many factors can affect the system efficiency. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the charge/mass ratio (Q/M) at different spraying distances (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 m), and the liquid deposition efficiency on the target. Evaluating the Q/M ratio the Faraday cage method was used and to evaluate the liquid deposition efficiency the artificial targets were positioned longitudinally and transversely to the spray jet. It was found that the spraying distance affects the Q/M ratio, consequently, the liquid deposition efficiency. For the closest distance to the target the Q/M ratio was 4.11 mC kg-1, and at distances of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 m, the ratio decreased to 1.38, 0.64, 0.31, 0.17 and 0.005 mC kg-1, respectively. For the liquid deposition, the electrostatic system was affected by the target orientation and spraying distance. The target transversely to the jet of liquid did not improve the liquid deposition, but longitudinally increased the deposition up to 3 meters of distance.
The objective of this research was to evaluate the air flow and spray vertical distribution produced by a hydro-pneumatic sprayer. The sprayer was attached to a John Deere tractor, model 5705. The rotation of the fan was set at 226.19 rad s-1 (2.160 rpm). The study was performed on both sides of the sprayer, with the intent of identifying possible asymmetries in the air flow distribution. Measurements of air speed were taken at three positions along the fan periphery. The uniformity of liquid vertical distribution was analyzed at pressures of 633, 844 and 1.055 kPa using a vertical collector placed two meters from the center of the fan impeller. The experiment was arranged in a randomized blocks design, with three replications. The air average speed, taken at the ventilation outlet was of 35.5 m s-1 and the average vertical speed taken at 0.5 meters from the bar was of 5.9 and 5.1 m s-1 to the left and right side, respectively. Variation coefficients for the vertical distribution volume were 136, 136 and 141% for the working pressures of 633, 844 and 1055 kPa, respectively.
A B S T R A C TDuring pesticide spraying, the psychrometric conditions of the air may cause evaporation of the droplets along their trajectory from the nozzle to the target. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of air psychrometric conditions and operating pressure on the droplet spectrum of air-assisted boom sprayers. The test was performed using a prototype equipped with an axial fan, a flow homogenizer, temperature and relative air humidity sensors, a spray nozzle and a gas-heating system to warm up the airflow. With the assembled system and the aid of a particle analyser, the JSF 11002 spray nozzle was evaluated with respect to droplet spectrum in four air psychrometric conditions (7, 14, 21 and 28 hPa) and at four operating pressures (200, 300, 400 and 500 kPa). At the end, evaporation losses were observed during the sprayings. For a given operating pressure and for each increment of 1 hPa in vapor pressure deficit, there was a diameter reduction of approximately 0.0759, 0.518 and 1.514 µm for the parameters DV 0.1 , DV 0.5 and DV 0.9 , respectively. The diameter of the droplets decreased as the operating pressure increased.
ERGONOMIC EVALUATION OF KNAPSACK SPRAYERS USED IN FORESTRYABSTRACT -Knapsack sprayers have been widely used in forestry. However, some equipment may cause different levels of stress for the operators, causing harm to their health. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate ergonomically four knapsack sprayers (thermal sprayer, pneumatic motorized, hand sprayer and electric sprayer), regarding to noise parameters, body vibration level, energy expenditure and physical effort. For noise evaluation, a dosimeter 01dB was used, and the results were compared with the regulatory norm NR-15. For vibration levels, we used a triaxial accelerometer connected to a signal processor Maestro type, and data were compared to the European directives. For caloric expenditure and physical effort, we used a gas metabolic analyzer manufactured by Medgraphics® model VO2000 and a heart monitor from Polar brand. We observed that the hand and electric knapsack sprayers did not present problems related to the noise level. However, the pneumatic motorized knapsack and the thermal sprayer, showed levels above than recommended by regulatory norm NR-15 with levels of 99.97 and 94.33 dB(A), respectively. Similarly, the motorized equipment presented high levels of vibration compared to the other equipments, with global vibration (A8) of 2.09 m s -2 for the thermal sprayer and 2.15 m s -2 for the pneumatic. Regarding to energy expenditure, there were small vari...
In recent years, electric backpack sprayers, which increase the operator's comfort and improve the spraying operation quality, have come up. This study aimed at evaluating an electric backpack sprayer, by using four flat spraying nozzles (XR 110.02, AXI 110.03, AXI 110.04 and AXI 110.05). The variables studied were: liquid flow and pressure, battery charge duration, axis rotation and pump noise. The electric sprayer provided constant flow and pressure for the Xr 110.02, AXI 110.03 and AXI 110.04 nozzles. By using the AXI 110.05 nozzle, a variation was observed for the liquid flow and pressure, mainly at the end of each repetition, since the flow increase also increased the pump power demand. Similarly, the battery charge duration was proportional to the power demand. For the flows studied, the pump noise fitted the regulation standards, for a daily working journey of 8 hours.KEy-worDS: Hydraulic spraying; flat spraying nozzles; liquid flow and pressure.COMUNICAÇÃO CIENTÍFICA
