O artigo tem como referência o manual escolar de Otto Büchler, “Arithmetica Pratica em quatro partes”. Livro, originalmente escrito em alemão, traduzido por Homero Dias Cardozo e publicado pela Editora Rotermund & Co de São Leopoldo e Cruz Alta, no Rio Grande do Sul. Circulou no Brasil entre os anos de 1915, primeira edição, até, pelo menos, 1932, na 6ª edição da parte três. Analisamos dois problemas nele contidos, destacando o fato de que esse manual destina-se, sobretudo, a aritmética. Cartas e cartões postais são analisados para argumentar a finalidade pedagógica dos mesmos durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial onde foram impingidas práticas coercitivas a imigrantes alemães radicados no Brasil. Servem para ilustrar abordagens intuitivas sobre a compreensão de saberes matemáticos algébricos e aritméticos na escola primária.
Este trabalho é parte de reflexões desenvolvidas no interior de um Grupo de Pesquisa cuja preocupação, entre outras, incide sobre disciplinas escolares. Faz parte de duas pesquisas mais amplas em nível de doutoramento. As reflexões conjuntas feitas no interior do referido grupo nos permitiram fazer aproximações entre objetos de estudos que guardam entre si alguma semelhança, ao terem como referência o livro didático de escolas primárias brasileiras na Primeira República. Assim, o objetivo deste texto é apreender e refletir sobre a ideia de pátria, presente nas obras didáticas, Aritmética Elementar Livro -1 (1919), de autoria de Georg August Büchler, e Nossa Pátria (1917), de José Francisco da Rocha Pombo, ambas destinadas à escola primária. O presente artigo tem como aporte teórico a História Cultural na concepção de Chartier (1990) e Barros (2006), a partir dos quais, os dois livros didáticos e, em particular, as mensagens patrióticas neles contidas são interpretadas em relação ao sentimento nacionalista que se desejava fomentar no Brasil do período. O exercício interpretativo é mediado pelo fato de que se constituem em obras distintas desde os campos de conhecimento dos quais provém, ou seja, Matemática, por meio da aritmética e História. Os livros didáticos de aritmética e de história contemplavam, em grande parte, os anseios nacionalistas de um regime político que procurava se afirmar no país durante a passagem do século XIX para o século XX.
O estudo do livro didático, recurso educacional amplamente empregado no meio escolar, contribui para o entendimento dos métodos e conceitos adotados pelos autores em suas épocas e proporciona conhecimentos acerca do desenvolvimento de uma disciplina. Assim sendo, o presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a maneira com que tópicos de Física Moderna são abordados e estruturados no livro didático “Física, 3º Livro - Ciclo Colegial”, de Aníbal Freitas, na edição publicada em 1959 no Brasil. Para tal, observou-se o último capítulo do livro, intitulado “Teorias Modernas da Física” e buscou-se analisar o modo com que o mesmo foi organizado para cumprir as legislações e instruções metodológicas, bem como torná-lo ao alcance dos alunos do ensino secundário, critérios estabelecidos pelo autor no parágrafo introdutório do capítulo. As teorias apresentadas incluem mecânica eletromagnética, teoria da relatividade e mecânica ondulatória, perpassando por nomes como Lorenz, Michelson, Einstein, Planck e Schrödinger. Concluiu-se que o capítulo atende, de maneira geral, às instruções metodológicas previstas na legislação e que alcança seu objetivo de fazer um apanhado das teorias que então exerciam maior influência na explicação dos fenômenos físicos, apesar de o fazer apenas de maneira introdutória.
