El objetivo de este trabajo es, a partir de la autoetnografía, llevar a cabo un análisis de la relación existente entre la legalidad y la ilegalidad en el sistema político cubano y cómo el mismo resulta generador de discriminación, abriendo el espacio para el delito y la corrupción. La autoetnografía y la observación participante son el método y la técnica privilegiada para la recogida de la información, mientras que el análisis se lleva a cabo, sobre todo, a partir del método comparativo con el caso peruano. Se considera que el propio sistema burocrático cubano es generador de espacios no legales o semilegales, siendo así que la corrupción no es un problema aislado sino un producto esencial de la maquinaria burocrática socialista cubana.
El presente trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de explicar la relación del creyente con la imagen de la Santa Muerte en su día a día a partir del estudio de caso de una sanadora de Ecatepec, en el Estado de México. El método fundamental es la etnografía. Las técnicas fundamentales empleadas fueron las entrevistas en profundidad y la observación participante. Se constata que la imagen de la Santa Muerte es concebida por parte del creyente como una presencia actuante en casi todas las esferas de su día a día, entendida, además, como una dadora de vida, salud y prosperidad. Comprender el culto a la Santa Muerte permite acercarse mejor a la idea que estos devotos tienen sobre la vida misma y sobre cómo vivirla.
La Santa Muerte es una devoción mexicana muy conocida, en México y fuera de él. En este trabajo se trata de, a través del trabajo etnográfico, explicar qué significa la Santa Muerte para sus devotos en su vida cotidiana y en su habitar una de las mayores ciudades del mundo. Se hace énfasis en la caracterización que hacen los fieles de la Santa y en los prejuicios que enfrentan, así como al derrumbe de altares públicos que han ocurrido luego de la declaración de guerra al narco a finales de 2006. En la Ciudad de México los altares públicos que aún perduran y en general el culto abierto se da en las colonias más vulnerables de la zona urbana. También se puede sostener la hipótesis de que la Santa Muerte es una devoción que llega a la ciudad desde los estados circundantes a mediados del siglo pasado, momento en que hubo un boom demográfico en gran medida causado por la migración.

Se ubica, además, al pensamientovasconceliano en el contexto del pensamiento latinoamericano de principios delsiglo xx y la reacción antipositivista de la época.
