The sequential analysis of self-observations was used to study the reactions of Physical Education student teachers (N = 154) toward elementary school pupils’ misbehaviors. Reactions were categorized as direct or indirect indicating whether or not they represent a direct appeal to the student teacher’s authority status. Causal attributions of misbehaviors made by student teachers as well as their level of intensity were noted. In general, student teachers resorted to direct reactions and attributed the cause of the misbehavior to personal characteristics of the pupil. Their reactions and attributions differed, however, as a function of the level of the misbehavior’s intensity. In response to misbehaviors of high intensity, student teachers were more likely to resort to a combination of direct and indirect reactions and even more to systematically attribute the cause of these misbehaviors to the pupil. This pattern of results suggests that direct and indirect reactions have complementary functions in the management of high intensity misbehaviors.
L’auto-observation sert à étudier les réactions des stagiaires en éducation physique vis-à-vis des comportements perturbateurs (CP) d’élèves. Les réactions sont catégorisées comme directes ou indirectes, selon qu’elles font appel ou non à un statut d’autorité. Les attributions du stagiaire quant à la cause des CP ainsi que leur niveau d’intensité sont pris en considération. Les réactions et les attributions diffèrent en fonction du degré d’intensité des CP. Les stagiaires recourent davantage à une combinaison de réactions directes et indirectes en réponse aux CP de forte intensité et attribuent plus systématiquement la cause de ces CP à l’élève.Self-study was used to examine the responses of student teachers in physical education to pupils' disruptive behaviours. Response were classified as direct or indirect, according to whether they relied on authority status. The causes to which student teachers ascribed disruptive behaviours and the behaviours' intensity were also taken into consideration. Responses and ascriptions of cause differed according to the degree of intensity of the behaviours. Student teachers had greater recourse to a combination of direct and indirect responses in response to high-intensity disruptive behaviours and more systematically ascribed the cause of such behaviours to the pupils.La auto obervación sirve para estudiar las reacciones de los practicantes en educación física frente a comportamientos perturbadores (CP) de los alumnos. Las reacciones son catalogadas como directas o indirectas, dependiendo si éstas recurren o no a un status de autoridad. Las atribuciones del practicante, en cuanto a la causa del CP y a su nivel de intensidad, son tomadas en consideración. Las reacciones y las atribuciones difieren en función del grado de intensidad de los CP. Los practicantes recurren más a una combinación de reacciones directas e indirectas como respuesta a los CP de fuerte intensidad, atribuyendo asi, más sistemáticamente, la causa al alumno.Die Reaktionen der Praktikanten des Turnunterrichts auf störende Verhaltensweisen (CP) der Schüler werden mittels Selbstbeobachtung untersucht. Die Reaktionen werden als direkt oder indirekt eingestuft, je nach dem sie auf den Autoritätsstatus zurückgreifen oder nicht. Sowohl die Urteile des Praktikanten hinsichtlich der Ursache der CP als auch deren Intensitätsgrad werden berücksichtigt. Die Reaktionen und die Urteile hängen von der Intensität der CP ab. Bei sehr starken CP weisen die Praktikanten besonders Kombinationen von direkten und indirekten Reaktionen auf; dabei wird die Ursache der CP ziemlich systematisch beim Schüler gesucht
L’objectif de cette étude consiste à décrire les besoins de formation continue (FC) des enseignants en éducation physique et à la santé (ÉPS) en matière d’éducation à la santé (ÉS) à travers l’éclairage du référentiel québécois des compétences professionnelles (CP). Les données issues d’un questionnaire complété par 223 enseignants d’ÉPS au primaire (F=80 ; H=143) révèlent des besoins de FC nombreux et variés. La conception d’outils pédagogiques et l’évaluation des élèves associées aux compétences professionnelles de l’acte d’enseigner constituent leurs plus grandes préoccupations. Les enseignants souhaitent une formation qui assurerait un accompagnement individualisé adapté à leurs besoins. La perspective d’une culture de collaboration visant à créer un environnement où le développement professionnel continu prend vie à l’intérieur de l’école est explorée.
