The application of fermentation is one of methods to increase food quality biologically. Availability of Jatropha curcas residual from oil factory be focused as a soybean meal or fish meal replacement. On the other hand, J. curcas residuals possess a toxic compound as well. This study aimed to examine the effect of Aspergillus niger on the nutrition and harmful content of J. curcas as a potential ingredient of feed. In brief, J. curcas residual was fermented with a detoxification method at 3 d, 5 d, and 7 d. Crude protein, fat, and crude fiber content were assessed to discover the biological responses of J. curcas post–fermentation while phorbol ester was evaluated to toxic content post–detoxification. The results showed that crude protein and fat content were highest on 7 d post–fermentation but it was no significant difference (p > 0.05). While crude fiber content showed significant difference which the 3 d fermentation had the highest content of fiber. For phorbol ester content, 3 d fermentation showed a better result than the control group (p < 0.05). The present findings suggest that A. niger is recommendable as starter to reduce fiber and toxic content of J. curcas residual at 3 d fermentation.
Aquaponics is a technology that combines fish and vegetable cultivation at one system. Aquaponics can be used as an alternative to drive food resilience at the family level. For it can also provide benefits for improving family nutrition by fulfilling animal and vegetable protein, it is necessary to disseminate this technology to the public. The implementation of this service community program aims to disseminate aquaponic technology to the community, especially in Kampung Wolulas Group, Turen District of Malang Regency. The method used in the program was to provide solutions and basic information related to aquaponics, which was implemented through training and applications as well as partner assistance. There were three models of appropriate aquaponic technology applied, namely the bucket pond, the round tarpaulin pond, and the square tarpaulin pond. The cultivation results showed the survival rate of catfish by 65% and the feed conversion ratio of 1,1. Based on the results of the aquaponics, it is more expected to be a solution for family food resilience, especially in partner groups.
There are obstacles in the aquaculture business that is still often facedbyfarmers, one of the challengesisthe high price of commercial feed. Feed as an energy source for growth is a reasonably high-cost component in production that reaches 40-89 %. In the control of food for efficiency, it could be done by the fasting method. This research was aimedtoanalyze the effect of periodic fastedofgiant prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii de Man, 1879) against growth and feed efficiency. This research was conducted at IBAP Installation, Probolinggo District - East Java Province. The experimental method used completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications, such as; P0: feeding without fasting (as control), P1: a-day fasted, a-day feeding, P2: a-day fasted, two-days feeding, P3: a-day fasted, three-day feeding, P4: a-day fasted, four-days feeding, P5: a-day fasted, five-day feeding. The results showed that periodic fasted of M. rosenbergii no significant effect on the daily growth rate, absolute weight growth, and feed efficiency. However, by looking at the rate of growth, thisfasting methodcouldbe used as an alternative to saving feed. The P5 showed the most effective in increasing daily growth rate, absolute weight growth, and effectiveness of giant prawn feeding. The strategy of periodic fasted to increase the production of giant prawns should consider the other supporting factors such as ideal water quality (pH, temperature, and DO), proper stocking density, and feeding periods on schedule.
One way to increase cultivation productivity is by increasing stocking. Gouramy is a freshwater commodity that has a fairly slow growth performance. This study aims to determine the growth performance of gouramy reared at different stocking densities. The 3 cm gourami are reared in a pond containing 35 liters of water. ponds P1 (30 heads), P2 (50 heads), P3 (100 heads), P4 (150 heads), P5 (200 heads) each was repeated 3 times. Growth rate (GR), specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate (SR), and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured and analyzed for variance (ANOVA) followed by LSD. The results showed that the fish reared in pond P1 showed the best GR, SGR, FCR, and SR (3.8 g, 3.99 %, 96 %, and 1.11 respectively). The lower the density, the better the growth performance but based on efficiency and productivity the best is at P2.
