Introduction: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum, and results in considerable morbidity and mortality. Congenital syphilis can lead to miscarriage, prematurity, bone deformities, hearing loss and other important clinical changes. Objective: To analyze prenatal quality and clinical conditions of newborns exposed to syphilis in a public maternity hospital in Rio Branco-Acre. Method: This is a cross-sectional study that included 92 mothers diagnosed with syphilis during pregnancy, attended from July to December 2017. Two pregnant women had fetal death, and the final sample consisted of 90 newborns exposed to syphilis. An interview with the postpartum woman was used, analysis of the pregnant woman's card and search for information from the pregnant woman's records and newborns. It was considered confirmed case of syphilis in pregnant woman: a) All pregnant women who presented non-treponemal reagent test with any titration and reagent treponemal test performed during prenatal care; b) Pregnant woman with reagent treponemal test and nonreactive or unreacted nontreponemal test, without previous treatment record. To characterize congenital syphilis we considered: a) newborn whose mother was not diagnosed with syphilis during pregnancy and who presented a nontreponemal test reactive with any titration at the time of delivery; b) child whose mother was not diagnosed with syphilis during pregnancy and had a non-treponemal test reagent at the time of delivery; c) newborns whose mother presented a reactive treponemal test and a nonreactive non-treponemal test at the moment of delivery, without previous treatment record. Results: Most newborns were born in normal delivery (65.5%), 17.8% had acute fetal distress and 11.2% required resuscitation maneuvers. Prematurity occurred in 10% of births and 12.2% of them were small for gestational age. Complete prenatal care was performed by 29.5% of the mothers, following the recommendations of the Ministry of Health of seven visits to the Health Unit and or Health Professional. From the 90 pregnant women, 79 had a reactive treponemal test when admitted to the maternity ward. 29.3% of them performed the treatment properly. In the analysis about the treatment of the sexual partner, it was reported that 58% did not adhere to syphilis treatment. Conclusion: The prenatal quality of pregnant women with syphilis was lower than that recommended by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, although there are few cases of syphilis as the primary outcome in newborns with childbirth with mothers diagnosed with syphilis. The aim of this research was to evaluate previous serum screening for hepatitis B (total anti-HBc) among blood donation candidates, verifying the link between the variables: gender, age, degree of education and native-born. A transverse study with retrospective data carried out on a target population, blood donation candidates from districts of the interior of Acre State, who came to the Acre Hematology and Hemoterapy Center during the period January to December, 2002. The research indicated reactivity in 54.8% of the total anti-HBc among the 673 candidates included. Greater reactivity of total anti-HBc was observed among males, older candidates and those with lower education levels (p<0.005). Previous serum screening for hepatitis B among blood donation candidates is a viable alternative, since it reduces cost and increases transfusional safety. Attracting female donors, youths and those who have higher education levels, would signify potential blood donors for HEMOACRE.

Objective: Evaluation of epidemiological, clinical and laboratory features of Plasmodium vivax malaria in children and adolescents.Methods: This study was carried out in the Malaria Program of the Evandro Chagas Institute (Belém, Pará), from January 1995 to November 1996. 100 children and adolescents with the diagnosis of P. vivax malaria (thick blood film) were randomly enrolled. A protocol was created to assess epidemiological, clinical and laboratory parameters of this pathology.Results: Malaria occurred in both sexes, and had a prevailing incidence among adolescents (37%). Most of the children and adolescents (92%) had been infected in the State of Pará. Autochthonous cases in the metropolitan area of Belém accounted for 34 % of the sample. Primary infection was seen in 80% of the patients. Fever was the major onset clinical symptom (88%). A history of typical febrile paroxysm was recorded in only 25% of the casuistic. In the first day of treatment (D0) fever (97%), chills (91%), pallor (85%), splenomegaly (46%) and hepatomegaly (29%) were some of the clinical features observed. Pallor (clinical signal) was found to be significantly (p=0.0004) associated with anemia (hemoglobin rate). There was a high significant negative correlation (p=0.0001) between delay of diagnosis (mean 12,5 days) and hemoglobin values. Regarding parasitological examination, just children and adolescents with positive results to hookworms were significantly (p=0.0133, p=0.0075) more anemic than those who had a positive parasitological examination to other helminths and/or protozoa species.Conclusions: Malaria affected children and adolescents from both sexes. An emphasis on epidemiological and clinical data is an important tool to the precocious diagnosis of the disease. Delay on diagnosis made anemia worse. ResumoObjetivo: Avaliação dos aspectos epidemiológicos, clínicos e laboratoriais da malária por Plasmodium vivax em crianças e adolescentes.Métodos: No ambulatório do Programa de Malária do Instituto Evandro Chagas (Belém-Pará), no período de janeiro de 1995 a novembro de 1996, foram estudadas de modo aleatório 100 crianças e adolescentes com diagnóstico positivo por gota espessa para malária por P. vivax. Elaborou-se um protocolo para avaliação dos aspectos epidemiológicos, clínicos e laboratoriais dessa patologia.Resultados: Acometimento de ambos os sexos, com predomí-nio entre os adolescentes (37%). As crianças e adolescentes em sua maioria (92%) adquiriram a infecção no Pará. Os casos autóctones, área metropolitana de Belém, representaram 34% da amostra. Primoinfecção ocorreu em 80% dos pacientes. Febre foi a manifestação clínica inicial mais freqüente (88%). Relato de paroxismo febril típico (febre terçã) foi obtido em somente 25% da casuística.
