O tema deste trabalho é a relação cidade versus natureza. Por séculos, ambiente urbano e ambiente natural foram considerados como entidades separadas. No entanto, os problemas ambientais gerados pela atividade humana impulsionaram a preservação e conservação dos recursos ambientais. Assim, o problema analisado neste artigo é: a preservação e a conservação atuais dos recursos ambientais são sinais de que duas totalidades consideradas tipicamente excludentes – cidade versus natureza – estão se integrando em direção à formação de uma única totalidade? Assim, o objetivo geral deste trabalho é investigar se as mudanças na relação entre espaços urbanos e natureza são sinais da construção de uma única totalidade. Foi utilizada como procedimento metodológico uma revisão teórica sobre a relação dialética entre a construção das cidades e a natureza. Conclui-se que as várias contradições encontradas na discussão do tema apontam para uma nova síntese na construção de uma totalidade conjunta entre a urbe e a natureza.
