Partially substituted ethyl silicates were synthesized by the transesterification reaction of ethyl silicate with 2-substituted ethanol. The cation-exchange resin catalyst having sulfo group was favorable as a catalyst.Hydrolysis of these silicates was studied at 60°C in water. Partial substitution was enough to enhance the hydrolyzability of silicates. Alkoxy, dimethylamino, and chloro substituents were consequently found to enhance the hydrolyzability of 2-substituted ethoxy groups, as well as ethoxy groups.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
