An integrated engineering environment is described wherein capabilities are provided for addressing the role of human operators and decision makers in complex systems. The manner in which the environment supports the implementation of a human engineering process as an integral part of a standard systems engineering process is described. The capabilities of a prototype Human Centered Design Environment currently under development are discussed.
The new ISO 9004:2000 provides better possibilities of a closer approach to Business Excellence Models, such as the EFQM model. However, it should be pointed out that ISO 9001 is the only standard for requirements. In different special fields of activity there were and there are actions for a further approach or specification of the ISO 9001 in view of its application. The ISO/IEC 17025 for testing and calibration laboratories published in May 2000 is considered to be such an example. This standard has been implemented in practice and provides a good and user-oriented basis also in relation to the new ISO 9001. During the next years, a revision may be expected under the aspect of a process-oriented representation.Since 1999, there have been a draft standard of the DIN EN ISO 15189 ("Quality management in the medical laboratory") as well as drafts of further requirement papers for application in special fields, such as explosion protection and aerospace. The risk of redundancy and inconsistencies with the ISO 9001 as well as of a new proliferation in too many specific application standards should be met by team projects -similar to the approach in drawing up the ISO 19011.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
