Phis paper discusses the deterioration of optical glass in tropical areas and the development of a method for preventing the deterioration of optical instruments caused by the growth of fungi on lenses and prisms. Such deterioration, commonly referred to as fungus fouling, is a serious problem in tropical areas.Radium sulfate was incorporated into a metallic foil, which was subjected to myeological and physical tests to determine the fungicidal efficacy and practicability of such a treatment.
The results indicate:(a) Radium-activated foil will prevent fungus fouling of optical instruments.
