BISHOP-CLARK, Cathy; DIETZ-UHLER, Beth. ENGAGING IN THE SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING: a guide to the process, and how to develop a project from start to finish. Apresentar uma proposta que dê conta de responder a esses tipos de situação é um dos objetivos de Bishop-Clark e Dietz-Uhler no livro Engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning: a guide to the process, and how to develop a project from start to finish.
The goal of this paper is to discuss the relevance of studies of aphasic syndromes to linguistic theory. This will be done by analyzing the main features involving the definition and the work with agrammatism. Two main ideas will be defended: that agrammatism is an aphasic syndrome in which both linguistic production and comprehension are affected and that there are regular observable patterns in the disruption of these two modalities. It will be argued that these ideas can serve as the basis for the elaboration of a hypothesis that accounts in a unified manner for the deficits observed in agrammatism. This hypothesis, named "Preservation of Local Links", claims that only links that are local in grammar are preserved in agrammatism, while any other kind of non-local link is to be considered disrupted. In this way, the presentation of such hypothesis is a contribution to the dialogue that studies of aphasic syndromes can entertain with linguistic theories.
This paper is intended to show that a proposal (Grodzinsky & Friederici 2006) on dissociation between two types of movement (MOVE XP and MOVE V ) is not supported by a critical review of data found in the literature of studies dealing with agrammatic aphasia. This procedure is considered to be of fundamental relevance for studies that plan to use evidence derived from studies based on linguistic aphasiology, since this field exhibits some problematic aspects concerning data analysis. Some conclusions reviewed here, thought to be straightforward, are, indeed, subject to questioning. In other cases, there are contradictory results that are commonly ignored in the construction of hypotheses. It is offered, then, a new posture on the consideration of the validity of studies that focus on aphasic syndromes within a linguistic framework.
