ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan setiap soal uraian kalkulus integral yang disusun berdasarkan indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan berdasarkan level akademik mahasiswa. Bentuk penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 2 tahun ajaran 2014/2015 Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika FKIP UIR Pekanbaru yang sedang mengikuti mata kuliah kalkulus 2 berjumlah sebanyak 115 orang. Subjek dibagi atas tiga kelompok yaitu mahasiswa pada level kemampuan tinggi (10 orang), mahasiswa pada level kemampuan sedang (88 orang), dan mahasiswa pada level kemampuan rendah (17 orang). Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik tes dan wawancara. Pengolahan keabsahan data menggunakan teknik triangulasi (mereduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa: (1) Mahasiswa pada level kemampuan tinggi yang menjawab dengan benar soal pada indikator 1 sebanyak 4 orang (40%), indikator 2 sebanyak 8 orang (80%), dan indikator 3 sebanyak 5 orang (50%); (2) Mahasiswa pada level kemampuan sedang yang menjawab dengan benar soal pada indikator 1 sebanyak 5 orang (5,68%), indikator 2 sebanyak 75 orang (85,23%), dan indikator 3 sebanyak 8 orang (9,09%); (3) Mahasiswa pada level kemampuan rendah yang menjawab dengan benar soal pada indikator 1 sebanyak 0 orang (0%), indikator 2 sebanyak 13 orang (68,42%), indikator 3 sebanyak 5 orang (26,32%); (4) Secara keseluruhan, indikator 1 sebanyak 9 orang (7,69%), indikator 2 sebanyak 96 orang (82,05%), dan indikator 3 sebanyak 18 orang (15,38%). This study is based on low ability in problem solving and students' mathematical communication. In order to overcome the problem, the study is done using Visual Thinking approach in learning activity with a Quick on the Draw activity. This is a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design and uses purposive sampling technique. Population in this study was VIII grade students of SMP in city of Pekanbaru, Riau year 2012/2013. Furthermore, the sample of this study was VIII grade students in a SMP of city of Pekanbaru, Riau. Instrument in this study was a test of problem solving ability and mathematical communication, attitude scale, observation sheet of teacher' and students' activities. Quantitative analysis was performed sing the average difference test. The result of the study showed that:(1) The increase in students' ability of mathematical problem solving whereas the students received Visual Thinking approach in learning activity with the Quick on the Draw activity is better in comparison with conventional learning approach which reviews whole students and students' mathematical prior knowledge (high, medium, and low); (2) the increase in students' ability of mathematical communication whereas the students received Visual Thinking approach in learning activity with the Quick on the Draw activity is better in comparison with conventional learning approach which reviews whole students and students' mathematical prior knowledge (high, medium, and low). Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, dilakukan penelitian dengan menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran Visual Thinking disertai aktivitas Quick on the Draw. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian Nonequivalent Control Group Design menggunakan teknik Purposive Sampling. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP di Kota Pekanbaru Riau Tahun Pelajaran 2012/2013 dan sampelnya adalah siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP di Kota Pekanbaru Riau. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan komunikasi matematis, skala sikap dan lembar observasi aktivitas guru dan siswa. Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji perbedaan rataan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapat pendekatan pembelajaran Visual Thinking disertai aktivitas Quick on the Draw lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran konvensional ditinjau dari keseluruhan siswa dan kemampuan awal matematis (tinggi, sedang, dan rendah); (2) Peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mendapat pendekatan pembelajaran Visual Thinking disertai aktivitas Quick on the Draw lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran konvensional ditinjau dari keseluruhan siswa dan kemampuan awal matematis (tinggi, sedang, dan rendah).
This study aims to find out the improvement of students’ mathematical critical thinking viewed from curiosity through teaching materials with Problem Based Learning model. This is quasi-experimental research. The samples are, where the overall population consists of 75 samples divided into two classes. This research employed a simple random sampling technique. The instruments were the mathematical critical thinking skill test and curiosity questionnaire. The technique of data collection was carried out with test and non-test techniques. The data were analyzed through a two-way Anova test. Based on the analysis and interpretation of the research findings, it was found that: there was an improvement in students’ mathematical critical thinking skill from High curiosity by using teaching materials with Problem Based Learning model; 1) There was an improvement from Average curiosity through learning with Integral Calculus teaching materials; 2) There was an improvement from Low curiosity; 3) There was no improvement from the level of curiosity (High, Medium, Low) through Problem-based Learning. 4) There was no influence between the level of curiosity and learning in improving students’ mathematical critical thinking skills. Do more in-depth studies related to improving mathematical critical thinking skills by reviewing other affective aspects
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan profil kemampuan koneksi matematis mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah pada mata kuliah kalkulus 1 ditinjau berdasarkan gaya kognitif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa pendidikan matematika FKIP UIR yang sudah lulus mata kuliah kalkulus 1. Instrumen pengumpulan data terdiri dari lembar tes tertulis, lembar tes GEFT dan lembar pedoman wawancara. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menganalisis data tertulis wawancara yang kemudian selanjutnya dilakukan triangulasi metode untuk mendapatkan data subjek penelitian yang valid. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa profil kemampuan koneksi matematis mahasiswa yang mempunyai gaya kongitif Field Independent, Field Medium, dan Field Dependent sudah mampu mengkoneksikan konsep matematika dengan konsep disiplin ilmu lainnya. Mahasiswa yang bergaya kognitif Field Independent, Field Medium, dan Field Dependent belum memiliki kemampuan untuk mengkoneksikan konsep matematika dengan konsep matematika serta belum mampu mengkoneksikan konsep matematika dengan permasalahan sehari-hari.
