Vision is an active process of the eye which begins at birth. Eyes are the most important organs we have in relating to the world around us. They are the connection between the outer and inner worlds. We must protect and taking loving care of these delicate organs. Ghee is one which is having high utility in preventive, promotive and curative ophthalmology and multi utility in different conditions. Ayurveda has traditionally considered cows' ghee to be the healthiest source of edible fat, with many beneficial properties .Ghee carries the properties of the drug without leaving its inherent properties. This is the unique nature of ghee which makes its wider application in different disease conditions by processing it with specific drug as per condition. Ghee is rich in short chain fatty acids, which the body finds easiest to digest. Ghee also contains Vitamin A, D, E, K and Linoleic acid which is considered to have properties very similar to antioxidants. These contents are helpful in preventing oxidative injury of the eye.
Shodhana is the essential & primary step to be followed for rasadravyas before subjecting to further procedures. In short shodhana means not only purification to reduce or remove Physical & chemical impurities of the drug but it minimize or eradicate toxic effect and potentiate the therapeutical activity of the drug, because of which the drug will act in a predictable manner. Samanya shodhana of tamra with Nirvapana processing technique was carried out according to Rasaratna samuchaya. After completion of samanya shodhana of tamra patra was converted in to powder form and change in quantity & quality of liquid media was noted. Nirvapana contributes to reduce the particle size, Change in physical & chemical impurities and improving the therapeutical efficacy.
Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is the result of an initial episode of acute otitis media and is characterized by recurrent discharge from the middle ear through a tympanic perforation. It is an important cause of preventable hearing loss, especially in developing countries. Most approaches to treatment have been unsatisfactory or are very expensive and difficult. As per Acharya Sushruta Karnasrava is a disease characterized by ear discharge. Gandhaka taila is a unique oil based herbo-mineral formulation especially mentioned for Karnasrava with the procedure of karnapurana. To provide clinical evidence and to prove Gandhaka taila as a safe and effective medicine in chronic suppurative otitis media, this study has been carried out. In this study, 23 patients fulfilling the diagnostic and inclusion criteria of CSOM were selected and Gandhaka taila was instilled in to the affected ear for 7 days. The efficacy of the drug was analyzed in terms of the relief produced in the signs and symptoms before and after treatment. The paired t-test was used to check the significance of subjective and objective criteria. The results of the study were found encouraging and there was also a significant reduction in ear discharge.
ABSTRACT'Aadousammurchayet sneham' the famous quotation has been explained in the classical text Bhaishajya Ratnavali. Prior to the preparation of any type of medicated oils, murchana a kind of pharmaceutical processing on crude oil is must. This process has aided significantly at enhancing the acceptability of the oil in the form of good odour and colour, as well as potency of medicated oils. Hence in this study an attempt was made to evaluate the importance of Sarshapataila murchana in the preparation of Gandhakataila through analytical parameters. Sarshapataila, murchita Sarshapataila, Gandhakataila prepared with murchita and amurchita Sarshapataila are separately analyzed with the basic analytical methods in terms of Organoleptic charactors, physic-chemical parameters and chromatographically changes. Results of the study revealed that application of murchana process on the basic oil Sarshapataila must be strictly included as per the pre-requisites of Gandhakataila.
