Bay leaf extract (Syzygiun polianthum) is one herbal elemnt that may be used to lessen liver function issues, lessen symptops of nausea, vomiting, discomfort and improve adherence and the effectiveness of tuberculossi treatment. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) extract on antioxidant activity, Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and liver histopathology of ethambutol-induced Wistar rats. This research is a laboratory experiment. Antioxidant activity of Bay Leaf Extract was evaluated by comparing vitamin C with spectrophotometry methods. White Wistar rats were separated into 6 groups and uset to test the lebel of MDA and livers histopathology. Group 1 serves as the control group and received DMSO (placebo); Group 2 was received ethambutol 50mg/kg BW; Group 3 was received ethambutol and silymarine with dose 50mh/kg BW. Group 4-6 had been given ethambutol and extra ethanol extract of bay leaves of 75,150, dan 300mg/kg BW, respectively. The results of the spectrophotometry showed that the Bay Leaf Extract had antioxidant activity comparable to that of vitamin C, with an IC50 of 11.4 g ± (4.4%). One-Way ANOVA test results obtained p = 0.002 (p<0.05) while the Kruskal-Wallis test results obtained the Asymp. Sig value 0.105> 0.05. There was a significance difference in each group’s MDA levels (p=0.002). Although there was no significant difference in the liver histopathology of treated rats (p>0.05). While bay leaf extract significantly lowers MDA levels in ethambutol-induced Wistar rats, it has no discernible impact on the liver histopathology of ethambutol-induced Wistar rats. Bay leaf extract possesses antioxidant activity comparable to vitamin C.
DBD (Demam Berdarah Dengue) merupakan penyakit menular yang disebabkan oleh nyamuk Aedes aegypti. Kasus DBD yang ditemukan di wilayah Jawa Timur masih juga cukup tinggi salah satunya di Kota Surabaya. Berbagai upaya telah dilakukan dalam penanggulangan DBD, hingga saat ini DBD dapat dikatakan masih menjadi epidemi di Indonesia termasuk di Kota Surabaya. Salah satu cara pengendalian vektor demam berdarah selama ini adalah menggunakan larvasida. Penggunaan larvasida kimia yang berulang memiliki risiko kontaminasi residu pestisida dalam air, terutama air minum. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan suatu inovasi untuk menggunakan bahan alternatif yang bisa digunakan sebagai larvasida dan juga ramah lingkngan. Misi yang diharapkan setelah melaksanakan kegiatan ini, masyarakat dapat mengerti cara mencegah penyakit DBD selain berpatokan pada program pemerintah melalui 3M Plus tapi juga masyarakat dapat merubah perilaku menuju perilaku yang mencerminkan usaha memberantas sarang nyamuk seperti menguras bak mandi secara rutin, menutup tempat penampungan air, menimbun sampah plus memelihara ikan pemakan jentik serta menabur larvasida alternatif yang ramah lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah dan pemaparan pembuatan larvasida alternatif serta tanya jawab. Hasil kegiatan edukasi dan pelatihan pembuatan larvasida alternatif dengan menggunakan media nutrisi hidroponik, warga sangat antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan serta mengajukan pertanyaan baik mengenai tindakan nyata untuk menekan angka kejadian DBD dilingkungan masyarakat dan juga cara pengaplikasian nutrisi hidroponik sebagai larvasida alternatif. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa para peserta mendapat tambahan pengetahuan dan keterampilan baru sehingga lebih paham mengenai langkah-langkah dalam menekan perkembangan larva nyamuk Aedest aigipty penyebab penyakit DBD.
The COVID-19 pandemic that lasted for two years had an impact on the health of the elderly, especially the elderly with hypertension. Elderly health development through Posyandu Lansia provides great benefits for the elderly with hypertension in controlling their blood pressure, but this activity must be vacuumed during the pandemic. The reduction in the number of COVID-19 cases is expected to be able to reactivate of Posyandu Lansia, so that elderly health cadres as activity drivers can improve their knowledge and skills. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of elderly health cadres in the implementation of ergonomic gymnastics to reduce blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. The method used in this community service activity is a participative educational approach, namely providing health education and demonstrations regarding ergonomic gymnastics. This activity was carried out for one month and was attended by ten elderly health cadres. Knowledge and skills of cadres in carrying out ergonomic gymnastics were observed with questionnaires and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The results of community service show that the knowledge and skills of elderly health cadres in carrying out ergonomic gymnastics are very good.
