A sífilis representa hoje um grave problema de saúde pública no Brasil, ocasionado em boa parte por falhas de assistência e no acesso da população aos serviços públicos de saúde, como também pela falta de conhecimento a respeito da doença de parcela significativa da população. A escola, pensada como espaço formal de aprendizagem, adquire papel fundamental neste processo, especialmente no que diz respeito à educação em saúde, e o livro didático assume protagonismo como ferramenta pedagógica imprescindível para o desenvolvimento do ensino-aprendizagem. Assim, este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a abordagem dessa infecção nos 10 (dez) livros de biologia aprovados pelo Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD) de 2018, dentro do eixo temático da diversidade da vida. Para tanto, foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa através de análise de conteúdo com abordagem qualitativa, onde cada obra foi avaliada em 11 (onze) tópicos, agrupados em aspectos de conteúdo, didático e quantificação, sendo atribuídas notas para cada um deles. Como resultados, verificou-se que em 4 obras não havia nenhuma abordagem sobre o agravo; em outras 4 (quatro) o assunto foi tratado de maneira bastante superficial e em apenas 2 (duas) foi feita uma abordagem um pouco mais detalhada. Ressalta-se que em nenhuma delas houve contextualização da infecção com aspectos sociais ou qualquer tipo de abordagem sobre aspectos epidemiológicos da doença. Conclui-se que, por mais que o país esteja passando por uma situação de epidemia de sífilis, a mesma é tratada ainda de maneira superficial pelo conjunto dessas obras didáticas, carecendo de uma abordagem significativa que privilegie a contextualização da temática com aspectos sociais da vida dos estudantes. Por fim, é fundamental a adoção por parte das entidades governamentais de critérios mais rígidos para avaliação e aprovação desses materiais, tendo em vista a importância da temática, bem como a conscientização dos professores para que privilegiem também outras boas fontes de conhecimento em suas aulas.
