Contrary to expectation, 1 reacts under unusually mild conditions with 2 (or its valence tautomer 3) to yield the adduct 4 which after N2 elimination rearranges to the benzoCflphthalazine,ll. The Diels-Alder reaction of 1 with 14 (or its valence tautorner 13) leads to the annulated dihydropyridazines 15 and 16, which can be dehydrogenated by silver@) oxide to the methano-bridged aromatic cyclodecapyridazine 17 and the olefinic phthalazino[5,6-fJphthalazine 18, respectively. Besides, the methano-bridged cyclodeca [d]pyridazie 24 is prepared.
