Die Erfahrung, jem anden n ic h t zu verstehen oder selbst n ic h t verstanden zu w e r den, ist ein essentieller Bestandteil unserer K om m unikationspraxis: W ir haben uns n ic h t verstanden/m iß verstanden; W ir konnten uns n ic h t verständigen; Die K om m unikation h a t n ic h t g e k la p p t/is t m iß lu n g e n /g e stö rt; Die Verständigung w ar sch w ie rig /p ro b le m a tisc h /is t fehlgeschlagen etc. sind verbale Beschreibungen dieserErfahrung. A uch w enn w ir w o h l (viel) häufiger den Eindruck haben, daß Kom m u nikation 'fu n k tio n ie rt', 'g e lin g t' und w ir uns 'v e rstä n d ig e n ' können, so g ib t es doch eine nicht zu vernachlässigende Zahl von Fällen, in denen w ir bem erken, daß die K om m unikation nicht klappt, oder w o sich später herausstellt, daß sie n ich t ge klappt hat (obw ohl w ir in der S ituation einen anderen Eindruck hatten).Es liegt dabei auf der Hand, daß dieses Gelingen und M ißlingen im Regelfall kein dichotom es A lles oder N ichts ist, sondern daß es sich zum einen um ein graduelles M aß handelt, ein M ehr oder W eniger auf einer Skala, deren Endpunkte eine um fassende V erständigung (relativ zu den Z w ecken der Interaktion) und ein totales Fehlschlagen der K om m unikation sind, und daß es sich zum anderen häufig nur auf bestim m te A sp e kte oder Teilbereiche der K om m unikation erstre ckt.Aus dieser Perspektive b e tra ch te t is t V erständigung also keinesw egs ein selbst verständliches, unproblem atisches oder gar autom atisches R esultat von Kom m u nikation. Z w ar zielt Kom m unikation im Regelfall auf V erständigung ab, aber es gibt keine Garantie dafür, daß sie erreicht w ird : Kom m unikation hat Versuchscharakter, und es besteht aus vielerlei Gründen immer die Gefahr, daß der V ersuch n ich t zum Erfolg fü h rt. Deshalb bedarf es der ständigen K ontrolle, ob die V erständigung fü r die Z w ecke der Beteiligten in einem hinreichenden M aß gelin g t, und es e rfo rd e rt kontinuierliche A n stre n g u n g und kom m unikative A rb e it, um die Ergebnisse von K om m unikation zu verbessern.Diese K ontrolle und A rb e it sind dabei unum gänglich, denn es ist keineswegs gleichgültig, ob V erständigung erreicht w ird oder n ich t. K om m unikation e rfo lg t nicht um ihrer selbst w ille n , sondern w ir streben V erständigung an, um bestim m te w eiterreichende Ziele und Z w ecke realisieren zu können. W ir sind also daran interessiert und darauf angew iesen, daß die V erständigung so w e it reicht, daß diese Ziele und Z w ecke v e rw irk lic h t w erden können. Kom m unikation m uß (zu m indest bis zu einem bestim m ten Grad) erfolgreich sein.Lenkt man die A u fm e rksa m ke it auf V erständigungsproblem e und gestörte K om m unikation, so w ird dam it also eine bestim m te S ich tw e ise auf Kom m unikation etabliert, die bestim m te A spekte in den V ordergrund rü c k t und andere in den H intergrund treten läßt: W ährend viele A uffassungen von K om m unikation V er ständigung als im w esentlichen funktio n ie re n d voraussetzen oder ihr Geling...
Nach einer Definition der Begriffe .multimodale Verständigung* und .gespro chene Sprache* werden im vorliegenden Beitrag Prozessualität, Interaktivität und Multimodalität als zentrale Besonderheiten multimodaler Verständigung beschrie ben und in ihren möglichen Auswirkungen auf die Syntax gesprochener Sprache charakterisiert. Als aktuelle Konzepte zur syntaktischen Beschreibung gesprochener Sprache stelle ich dann die on line-Syntax, die Konstruktionsgrammatik und die mul timodale Grammatik vor. Als Probleme der syntaktischen Beschreibung gesprochener Sprache diskutiere ich die Beschreibungskategorien sowie die Varianz gesprochener Sprache, die eine eindeutige kategoriale Erfassung erschwert. Als Gegenstand syn taktischer Beschreibung werden die funktionalen Einheiten und der Gesprächsbei trag eingeführt (Abschnitt 2). Sodann stelle ich Ausschließlichkeit, quantitative Diffe renz und funktionale Differenz als zu unterscheidende Formen von Besonderheiten vor. Es schließen sich Darstellungen zur Syntax im Formulierungsprozess, zu spezi fischen syntaktischen Strukturen und Konstruktionen und zur Syntax .elliptischer* Gesprächsbeiträge an (Abschnitt 3). Zum Abschluss werden zusammenfassend allge meine Tendenzen der Syntax gesprochener Sprache benannt (Abschnitt 4).
