O objetivo deste artigo é fazer uma análise dos erros observados nas respostas dos candidatos à uma vaga na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, em uma questão discursiva de Física de um concurso de vestibular de 2015, e categorizá-los à luz dos obstáculos epistemológicos de Bachelard. Foram selecionadas as respostas dos 200 primeiros candidatos classificados, corrigidas de acordo com o gabarito oficial, pontuadas e analisadas. Após análise foi selecionado um dos três itens da questão por apresentar maior leque de possibilidades de respostas. O item selecionado foi o item b – “Na situação de comunicação entre torre de controle e avião em voo, do ponto de vista físico, qual elemento define a velocidade da onda e qual define a frequência da onda?”. A análise das respostas indicou um percentual significativo aos erros associados à relação matemática . Observou-se que as respostas transitavam por duas perspectivas, uma teórica conceitual e outra de aplicação matemática, que sugeriu categorizar dentre os obstáculos epistemológicos de Bachelard, três deles: o Conhecimento Geral, a Experiência Primeira e o Conhecimento Pragmático. A análise, baseada nestes obstáculos, aponta para alguns possíveis equívocos no processo de ensino e aprendizagem dos conceitos científicos. Entre eles, (a) o uso direto de relações matemáticas sem sua contextualização e (b) a forma de apresentar a relação matemática , que tem a “aparência” de uma função do 1º grau, que induz aos erros encontrados, pois os candidatos, muitas vezes, não conseguem abstrair além da sua “aparência”. Bachelard aponta que o desenvolvimento do conhecimento científico é alcançado quando os sujeitos vão de situações concretas para o abstrato. Os obstáculos são barreiras a essa abstração. É apontado como uma possível solução, tratar as eventuais ressalvas ao apresentar tais relações matemáticas de forma direta.
