Durante a Nova República, disseminou-se junto às associações e sindicatos patronais rurais a certeza de "uma verdadeira guerra no campo" e a "inevitabilidade" da violência como única medida eficaz para conter as ações de ocupação de terras e a demanda por uma reforma agrária. O objetivo deste trabalho é mostrar, tendo como fonte o debate na grande imprensa, que a defesa e a prática da violência pelos grandes proprietários de terra e empresários rurais é estruturante e reflete um habitus que encadeia o passado e o presente numa mesma realidade. A violência revela-nos o conteúdo das relações de classe e expõe os componentes de velhos e novos padrões de conduta. Nos anos 80, ela funcionou como reforço à solidariedade e ao sentimento de pertencimento e serviu também para fortalecer ainda mais a convicção da superioridade dos proprietários sobre os trabalhadores rurais. Não se trata de um ato individual e esporádico; é uma violência ritualizada e institucionalizada, que implica a formação de milícias, a contratação de capangas, a lista dos marcados para morrer e os massacres. E nesse contexto, pouco se distingue o novo empresário do latifundiário tradicional, ou a voz "civilizada das urbes" da "rudeza dos grotões".
Em homenagem a Adão Pretto (PT/RS).Resumo: Este artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre a dinâmica das relações entre adversários políticos no Congresso Nacional quando está em jogo o debate a respeito o rural. Buscamos analisar a disputa política entre ruralistas e petistas da Frente Parlamentar da Agropecuária (FPA). Procuramos mostrar que a disputa política é parte de uma intrincada e abrangente rede de relações sociais, políticas, culturais, históricas e simbólicas. Estar presente no terreno do adversário faz parte da disputa. O objetivo deste artigo é refletir sobre os mecanismos de dominação simbólica presentes no discurso dos representantes dos grandes proprietários de terra e empresários agroindustriais quando dirigidos aos povos e comunidades tradicionais. Busco identificar a natureza de seus argumentos e perceber como as “diferenças fundamentais” (Gramsci, 1972) se exprimem na linguagem dessas elites e de seus porta-vozes. De uma perspectiva mais geral, procuro mostrar que, como parte do processo de constituição do agronegócio, a ampliação da representação e a diversificação de interesses em comum entre grandes proprietários de terra, produtores rurais e empresários agroindustriais organicamente constituídos incidem diretamente no modo como eles atuam junto aos seus adversários, em especial diante da luta dos povos indígenas e comunidades tradicionais e seus aliados e na produção de uma linguagem de classe orientada por três grandes argumentos, que se complementam e são acionados dependendo da conjuntura: (1) a desqualificação dos adversários e de seus aliados; (2) a concepção de que as criticas a eles endereçadas são preconceituosas, falsas e equivocadas; e (3) o discurso produtivista e apologético do agronegócio.
A eleição para a Presidência da República aproxima-se finalmente, mas no quadro de descontrole econômico e descrédito generalizado que vivemos, torna-se difícil fazer previsões seguras para os possíveis desdobramentos do atual momento político brasileiro. Apesar de nem a própria eleição estar garantida, algumas coisas podem ser tidas como certas: a candidatura de Ronaldo Caiado não "decolou”, nem tampouco a UDR (União Democrática Ruralista) possui a força eleitoral tão apregoada por seus dirigentes e pela grande imprensa.
