Introdução: O câncer de mama em mulheres com idade inferior a 40 anos e incomum. Entretanto, nessa população, a doença cursa, em geral, com pior prognostico. Objetivos: Descrever o perfil clínico e epidemiológico de mulheres jovens diagnosticadas com cancer de mama no Brasil e comparar as características clínicas entre mulheres com idade inferior a 34 anos e aquelas entre 35 e 39 anos. Método: Estudo transversal dos casos analíticos de câncer de mama em mulheres de 18 a 39 anos, inseridos no Módulo Integrador dos Registros Hospitalares de Câncer e no Registro Hospitalar de Câncer do Estado de São Paulo, entre 2000 a 2009. Foi realizada a análise descritiva das variáveis. Resultados: Foram incluídos 12.689 casos. A idade mediana foi de 36 anos, a maioria das mulheres possuía ensino médio (32,3%) e era proveniente do Sistema Único de Saúde (74,6%). O estadiamento avançado (≥IIB) foi registrado em 62,8% dos casos e, ao final do primeiro tratamento, 44,4% das pacientes encontravam-se sem evidencia da doença. Mulheres muito jovens apresentaram mais frequentemente tamanho do tumor >2cm, status dos linfonodos positivo, presença de metástase, estadiamento clínico avançado (≥IIB) e ausência de resposta terapêutica ao primeiro tratamento. Conclusão: No Brasil, mulheres jovens com câncer de mama apresentam estadiamento avançado ao diagnostico. Aquelas muito jovens (<35 anos) apresentam doença ainda mais avançada e pior resposta terapêutica que aquelas entre 35 e 39 anos.

Isto, demanda aos profissionais de saúde e gestores, o desenvolvimento, cada vez maior, de habilidades específicas na busca por tais evidências e como aplicá-las nos serviços de saúde e na sua prática profissional.A saúde coletiva compreende um campo de saberes e práticas que articulam diversas áreas do conhecimento, tais como: política e planejamento, gestão e avaliação em saúde, epidemiologia e ciências sociais, que são aplicadas na produção de ações voltadas para o enfrentamento e equacionamento dos principais problemas existentes na saúde das populações.As evidências científicas produzidas por este livro visam a subsidiar os profissionais de saúde e gestores dos serviços da saúde na produção de cuidados à saúde, políticas de saúde, modelos de atenção à saúde e tecnologias em saúde, capazes de diminuir as disparidades sociais existentes na sociedade e de trazer melhorias para saúde e qualidade de vida de grupos populacionais específicos, bem como compreender o processo saúdedoença, com ênfase na promoção da saúde, prevenção, recuperação e reabilitação da saúde.Outrossim, acredita-se que este compilado de estudos originais, relatos de caso e revisões produzidas a partir das evidências científicas aplicadas à saúde coletiva, possa agregar conhecimentos com foco na assistência à saúde das pessoas com doenças crônicas não transmissíveis -DCNT (doenças cardiovasculares, doenças mentais(estresse, ansiedade, depressão e outras), doenças respiratórias crônicas (bronquite, asma, rinite), hipertensão, câncer, diabetes, doenças renais crônicas, doenças metabólicas (obesidade, diabetes, dislipidemia, síndrome metabólica), e possa aplicá-las à saúde do adulto, idoso, trabalhador e outros subgrupos populacionais vulneráveis, com vistas a fortalecer as pesquisas na área da saúde baseada em evidências no contexto atual da saúde brasileira.Constitui-se, também, como um potencial instrumento divulgatório do material acadêmico, de excelente qualidade, produzido em academias brasileiras, pela graduação, mestrado e doutorado, oriundo da motivação dos campos teórico-práticos, sob a orientação de seus doutores e mestres.
