We describe 3 children in whom thrombosis of the spermatic vein vessels caused swelling of the spermatic cord and epididymis with edema of the scrotum. Venography of the spermatic vein demonstrated the thrombosis and, therefore unnecessary exploration was avoided.
The use of the appendix in urology as a tube to replace a segment of ureter has been reported by Melnik off (1912) and Wesolowski (1971). This paper reports its use in a further case.
SUMMARY
Four cases of extensive schistosomiasis of the ureter are presented, 3 unilateral and 1 bilateral, in which, after ureterectomy, urinary tract continuity was restored using an isolated loop of terminal ileum.
Factors which have emerged as a result of experience with this procedure in these cases, are discussed.
