This article reinforces the importance of focusing on the socio-historical perspective in understanding human formation and emancipation of subjects, highlighting the relevance of reference authors, Marx (1970), Saviani (2011), Vygotsky (1991) and Tonet (2006) in construction of the theoretical basis. The objective of the work was to discuss, from the perspective of socio-historical practice, the process of human formation and emancipation of subjects, highlighting the importance of social and historical aspects in this process. For that, we used a methodological approach of bibliographic review, with the objective of analyzing and synthesizing the knowledge available in the scientific literature about the process of human formation and emancipation of the subjects, based on the historical-cultural theory. The reflections and conclusions presented in this work contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the area and provide subsidies for discussion and action in favor of an emancipatory human formation, capable of promoting a more just, egalitarian and transforming society.
