Abstract-In literature, benchmark test functions have been used for evaluating performance of metaheuristic algorithms. Algorithms that perform well on a set of numerical optimization problems are considered as effective methods for solving real-world problems. Different researchers choose different set of functions with varying configurations, as there exists no standard or universally agreed test-bed. This makes hard for researchers to select functions that can truly gauge the robustness of a metaheuristic algorithm which is being proposed. This review paper is an attempt to provide researchers with commonly used experimental settings, including selection of test functions with different modalities, dimensions, the number of experimental runs, and evaluation criteria. Hence, the proposed list of functions, based on existing literature, can be handily employed as an effective test-bed for evaluating either a new or modified variant of any existing metaheuristic algorithm. For embedding more complexity in the problems, these functions can be shifted or rotated for enhanced robustness.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) implies that the human kidneys are harmed and unable to blood filter in the manner which they should. The disease is designated ''chronic'' in light of the fact that harm to human kidneys happen gradually over a significant time. This harm can make wastes to build up in your body. Many techniques and models have been developed to diagnos the CKD in early-stage. Among all techniques, Machine Learning (ML) techniques play a significant role in the early forecasting of different kinds ailments. ML techniques have been used for achieving analytical results which is one of the instruments utilize in medical analysis and prediction. In this paper, we employ experiential analysis of ML techniques for classifying the kidney patient dataset as CKD or NOTCKD. Seven ML techniques together with NBTree, J48, Support Vector Machine, Logistic Regression, Multi-layer Perceptron, Naïve Bayes, and Composite Hypercube on Iterated Random Projection (CHIRP) are utilized and assessed using distinctive evaluation measures such as mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE), relative absolute error (RAE), root relative squared error (RRSE), recall, precision, F-measure and accuracy.The experimental outcomes accomplished of MAE are 0.0419 for NB, 0.035 for LR, 0.265 for MLP, 0.0229 for J48, 0.015 for SVM, 0.0158 for NBTree and 0.0025 for CHIRP. Moreover, experimental results using accuracy revealed 95.75% for NB, 96.50% for LR, 97.25% for MLP, 97.75% for J48, 98.25% for SVM, 98.75% for NBTree, and 99.75% for CHIRP. The overall outcomes show that CHIRP performs well in terms of diminishing error rates and improving accuracy.

Software defect prediction (SDP) in the initial period of the software development life cycle (SDLC) remains a critical and important assignment. SDP is essentially studied during few last decades as it leads to assure the quality of software systems. The quick forecast of defective or imperfect artifacts in software development may serve the development team to use the existing assets competently and more effectively to provide extraordinary software products in the given or narrow time. Previously, several canvassers have industrialized models for defect prediction utilizing machine learning (ML) and statistical techniques. ML methods are considered as an operative and operational approach to pinpoint the defective modules, in which moving parts through mining concealed patterns amid software metrics (attributes). ML techniques are also utilized by several researchers on healthcare datasets. This study utilizes different ML techniques software defect prediction using seven broadly used datasets. The ML techniques include the multilayer perceptron (MLP), support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (J48), radial basis function (RBF), random forest (RF), hidden Markov model (HMM), credal decision tree (CDT), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), average one dependency estimator (A1DE), and Naïve Bayes (NB). The performance of each technique is evaluated using different measures, for instance, relative absolute error (RAE), mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE), root relative squared error (RRSE), recall, and accuracy. The inclusive outcome shows the best performance of RF with 88.32% average accuracy and 2.96 rank value, second-best performance is achieved by SVM with 87.99% average accuracy and 3.83 rank values. Moreover, CDT also shows 87.88% average accuracy and 3.62 rank values, placed on the third position. The comprehensive outcomes of research can be utilized as a reference point for new research in the SDP domain, and therefore, any assertion concerning the enhancement in prediction over any new technique or model can be benchmarked and proved.

The web is being loaded daily with a huge volume of data, mainly unstructured textual data, which increases the need for information extraction and NLP systems significantly. Named-entity recognition task is a key step towards efficiently understanding text data and saving time and effort. Being a widely used language globally, English is taking over most of the research conducted in this field, especially in the biomedical domain. Unlike other languages, Arabic suffers from lack of resources. This work presents a BERT-based model to identify biomedical named entities in the Arabic text data (specifically disease and treatment named entities) that investigates the effectiveness of pretraining a monolingual BERT model with a small-scale biomedical dataset on enhancing the model understanding of Arabic biomedical text. The model performance was compared with two state-of-the-art models (namely, AraBERT and multilingual BERT cased), and it outperformed both models with 85% F1-score.
