Este artigo visa descrever os padrões de organização textual do gênero acadêmico squib, com vistas a compreender as especificidades do seu processo de produção e de leitura. A relevância deste estudo se deve à incipiência de pesquisas desenvolvidas com este enfoque. Com base no referencial teórico-metodológico proposto por Swales (1990), Bhatia (1993), Miller (1994) e Motta-Roth e Hendges (2010), serão analisados dez squibs publicados em revistas acadêmicas da área de Linguística, na tentativa de verificar se há recorrência de movimentos e passos retóricos entre eles. Como resultado, foi possível apontar para certas tendências de organização textual, possibilitando a realização de um mapeamento dos movimentos e unidades retóricas desse gênero.
