Polycaprolactone (PCL) is polymer of 21st centuries. PCL is a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer used for various healthcare applications. This review explores the properties, synthesis, and processing of PCL. The use of PCL polymer for nanoparticles (NPs), microparticles, films, and fibers offers several advantages for biomedical applications. The review highlights the potential of PCL‐based materials for tissue engineering, drug delivery, wound healing, and implantable medical devices. We also critically analyzed challenges in PCL‐based materials and the strategies used to overcome for successful translation into clinical applications. Overall, this review provides a comprehensive overview of PCL as a valuable biomaterial for healthcare applications.

Background The three-dimensional (3D) printing is paradigm shift in the healthcare sector. 3D printing is platform technologies in which complex products are developed with less number of additives. The easy development process gives edge over the conventional methods. Every individual needs specific dose treatment. ‘One size fits all’ is the current traditional approach that can shift to more individual specific in 3D printing. The present review aims to cover different perspectives regarding selection of drug, polymer and technological aspects for 3D printing. With respect to clinical practice, regulatory issue and industrial potential are also discussed in this paper. Main body The individualization of medicines with patient centric dosage form will become reality in upcoming future. It provides individual’s need of dose by considering genetic profile, physiology and diseased condition. The tailormade dosages with unique drug loading and release profile of different geometrical shapes and sizes can easily deliver therapeutic dose. The technology can fulfill growing demand of efficiency in the dose accuracy for the patient oriented sectors like pediatric, geriatric and also easy to comply with cGMP requirements of regulated market. The clinical practice can focus on prescribing each individual’s necessity of dose. Conclusion In the year 2015, FDA approved first 3D printed drug product, which is initiator in the new phase of manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. The tailormade formulations can be made in future for personalized medications. Regulatory approval from agencies can bring the 3DP product into the market. Antimicrobial resistance is the leading cause of burden on healthcare sector. There is scientific challenge of developing new functional material as a platform to prevent and treat viral and microbial infection and cosmetic utility. In material chemistry, there is progress in the development of functional material with advent of nanotechnology with aid of synthetic organic chemistry. The properties and application of material can be changed significantly by modification of the surface functional groups (namely, COOH, HO, NH2OH, SO4,), formation of composite with inorganic material and incorporation of active pharmaceutical agents. In antibacterial application functional material of copper, silver, gold, platinum, tin, iron, cobalt, ruthenium, zinc and pharmaceutical antimicrobial agents found utility in the treatment of bacterial and hospital acquired infection with different resistant strains of microorganisms. In antiviral application many functional materials have been shown to possess remarkable antiviral ability like quantum dots, gold and silver nanoparticles, nanoclusters, carbon dots, graphene oxide and silicon materials. The polymers and dendrimers functionalized with USFDA approved antiviral agent also has potential therapeutic outcomes. Despite their difference in antiviral mechanism and inhibition efficacy, these functional material structures have unique features as potential antiviral candidates. In cosmetic applications functional material based on mica, sericite, fullerene, charcoal, peptides, mineral, lipids, glucocorticoid, nanocellulose hybrid material are extensively used. In this review, we have highlighted early promise and prospects of functional material for cosmetics, antibacterial and antiviral applications, advantages and disadvantages, Patent scenario, current challenges for translation into commercial products.

A solvent free and environmentally green synthesis using scientific microwave method of novel ligand derived from 2amino-5,6-dimethyl benzimidazole with 2-bromo Isophthalaldehyde. Metal complexes were derived from nitrate of Mn(II) and chlorides Ag(I), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Fe(III) salts with novel ligand. At the end of the reaction all metal complexes show fine color. By TLC and melting point of each complex was confirming the formation of metal complex. Characterization of novel ligand carried out by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, 1 HNMR spectroscopy, LCMS and characterization of metal complexes carried out by IR spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy and TGA. The novel ligand and its all metal complexes show antibacterial activity against E-Coli, S.Aureus and S.Typhi.
