Basado en datos de tres poblaciones indígenas de diferentes regiones e idiomas —palikur-arukwayene (arawak), kujubim (txapakura) y karitiana (tupi-arikêm)— este artículo busca dilucidar algunas cuestiones sobre la posición de los perros (Canis lupus familiaris) en los mundos amerindios. Centrándose en la preparación de perros cazadores, nuestro objetivo es discutir recurrencias en los tratamientos dirigidos a la creación de perros de caza: la diferencia entre perros que cazan y los que no cazan; el perro como compañero de caza que necesita ser hecho, y las técnicas de preparación de perros, que implican la conjunción de estos animales con partes del cuerpo de otros seres para comunicar afectos. Estos temas apuntan también a una cuarta recurrencia: si bien son animales domésticos y en cierto sentido, humanizados, los perros deben haber cultivado un devenir animal, para ser buenos cazadores. Existe un equilibrio constante entre domesticar y animalizar perros, en la búsqueda de un equilibrio precario entre lo animal y lo humano, similar a la constitución de la persona humana.

O artigo apresenta resultados parciais de uma pesquisa sobre as lutas pela escolarização das crianças do assentamento Chico Mendes, constante da zona rural do município de Arinos/MG. As narrativas de fundação e apropriação da escola pública como patrimônio da comunidade de assentados foram construídas com aportes teóricos da metodologia da História Oral. Da escola que funcionava em um curral à sua posterior apropriação pelo poder público, nossas reflexões e análises se estabeleceram no tocante ao histórico de luta e resistência contra as diretrizes estatais e pela consolidação de um projeto pedagógico de viés campesino. Ademais, analisamos a contraposição entre os silêncios percebidos na documentação escolar atual, e os conflitos e conquistas detalhados na memória dos fundadores da comunidade, os protagonistas da luta.
