Two methods are described for determining Young's modulus. The apparatus used in both cases utilizes a compensating device which eliminates the error caused by slippage or movement of the anchored end of the wire. The simplicity of the design of the apparatus described is such that it may be constructed in any school shop at a fraction of the cost of commercially available apparatus.
