A bacterial strain Delftia sp. TBKNP-05 isolated by para-hydroxybenzoate enrichment technique is capable of degrading di-n-butylphthalate (DBP) as a sole source of carbon and energy. Analysis of intermediates by thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography indicated the presence of monobutylphthalate (MBP), phthalate (PA), and protocatechuate (PCA). The washed cells grown on DBP and PA showed appreciable oxidation of DBP, MBP, PA, and PCA. The enzyme activities in cell free extracts of Delftia sp. TBKNP-05 exhibited the presence of DBP esterase, MBP esterase, PA-dioxygenase, and protocatechuate 4, 5-dioxygenase. The protocatechuate is metabolized by a meta-cleavage pathway leading to further mineralization of the compound in this bacterium.

It is well established fact that bacterial species promotes plant growth. This growth enhancing activity was believed to be through different mechanisms such as synthesis of phytohormones, nitrogen-fixing, and biological control. For this reason, in this present investigation we have isolated and identified Azotobacter spp. and Azospirillum spp. through macromorphologically and micromorphologically in order to assess its effect on growth and yield of strawberry (Fragaria vesca) an Albion variety in hydroponic system. The inoculation and coinoculation of bacterial culture was performed in combination with three nitrogen levels (50, 100 and 150 ppm), growth parameters such as plant height, root length, fresh and dry weight of root and aerial parts, leaf area, chlorophyll content, nutrient content, solid soluble, caliber, yield/plant. It is observed that in T8 (co-inoculation in100 ppm N) group showed significantly increase in plant height (18.57cm), chlorophyll content (48.57 Soil Plant Analysis Development-SPAD), fresh root weight (25.82g) and dry root weight (5.93g), while in treatment group T5 (Azotobacter spp. 100ppm of Nitrogen) and T6 (Azotobacter spp. 150ppm of Nitrogen) showed significant increase in root length, leaf area, dry and fresh weights of aerial parts. The N content of leaf for all treatments was in the ranges of 2.42 -2.83 % that is suitable for cultivation. Similarly, the treatment group T5 and T6 showed increase in yield per plant and soluble solids content. So, Azotobacter and Nitrogen treatment has growth related benefits in strawberries under hydroponic system.

Graphene has been used in several fields covering from electronics to biomedicine, especially exhibiting a widespread variety of promising biological and biomedical applications. In the past decade, the biomedical applications of graphene have attracted much interest. However, the effect of pristine graphene (pG) toxicity in aquatic vertebrates has not been fully studied. Thus, in this study, the toxicity of pG was experimentally evaluated using developing zebrafish embryos as in vivo model system. To determine this, 4-hpf embryos were exposed to different concentrations of pG (1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 μg/L) and different early life-stage parameters were observed at 24, 48, 72, and 96 hpf. Through embryogenesis, pG was observed to induce significant embryonic mortality, delayed hatching, heartbeat, several morphological defects, pericardial toxicity, and bradycardia. Yolk sac edema and pericardial edema were induced by pG in developing embryos. These outcomes would provide new insights into the adverse effects of pG on the developing embryonic cardiac defects in vertebrates and highlight the probable natural environment and health hazards of pG flakes.
