The double-thickness group exhibited the least internal stress for the U-shaped major connector. However, it delivered the greatest stress to the palatal mucosa and the periodontal ligaments.
like UP, that is showing signs of emerging epidemic. These emerging districts and sub-epidemics are related to population migration, and lack of focus on preventive measures. Kanpur is one of the industrial centers of UP with considerable migrant population. The low awareness regarding HIV transmission noted in the study (0e5.6%) 1 among roadside barbers is of special concern and may point to lack of focus on IEC and other preventive strategies in this geographical area. It is important to bring this to the notice of the state AIDS Control Organization and NACO. Though the results of the study may not be of major concern with regard to HIV epidemic in India, it has implications on other blood borne infections. There is greater need for effective strategies to control transmission of HBV and HCV in the community. Vaccination and ensuring improved hygienic practices are the best answers to this problem. I am sure that the information generated in the article will help us to refocus our efforts in strengthening the strategies to control blood borne infections in the country.
Deterioration or malfunction of any part should be viewed as an effect that has the direct or indirect result of one or more identifiable cause. The establishment of definitive goals is the foundation for the full mouth rehabilitation. Severe wear is common in prosthodontic patients whose teeth have been held in functional interference for long period of time. This case report presents a description of a patient's oral rehabilitation with metal ceramic restorations to increase vertical dimension while achieving canine guided occlusion.
Purpose: The long-term success of an implant depends on the stability of bone support for the implant. Most crestal bone loss occurs in the first year of implant placement. Platform-switching is an approach which can be clinically applied to preserve the crestal bone. The concept of 'platform switching' refers to the use of a smaller-diameter abutment on a larger-diameter implant collar. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate crestal bone level around platform-switched implants.
Materials and methods:Twenty implants with 5 mm diameter were placed in mandibular molar region. All implants had been placed at the crestal level at the time of surgery. Radiographs with grid were obtained 3, 6 and 12 months after loading and were evaluated by screen caliper software measuring the location of the crestal bone level relative to the implant platform.
Results:The implants showed a mean bone loss of 0.76 ± 0.1265 mm on mesial side and 0.72 ± 0.1481 mm on distal side after 1 year.
Conclusion:The findings of the current trial indicated that the use platform-switched implants lead to better preservation of crestal bone.
(1) Background: The effect of glazing on the mechanical properties of monolithic high translucent zirconia is not well reported. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of glazing on the flexural strength of high translucent zirconia; (2) Methods: Ninety specimens were prepared from second-generation 3Y-TZP high translucent blocks and divided into three groups. Glaze materials were applied on one surface of the specimen and subjected to a four-point bending test and flexural stress and flexural displacement values were derived. Descriptive fractographic analysis of surfaces was conducted to observe the point of failure and fracture pattern.; (3) Results: Control-nonglazed (647.17, 1σ = 74.71 MPa) presented higher flexural strength values compared to glaze I (541.20, 1σ = 82.91 MPa) and glaze II (581.10, 1σ = 59.41 MPa). Characteristic strength (σƟ) from Weibull analysis also observed higher (660.67 MPa) values for the control specimens. Confocal microscopy revealed that glazed surfaces were much rougher than control surfaces. Descriptive fractographic analysis revealed that there was no correlation between the point of failure initiation and flexural strength; (4) Conclusions: The test results demonstrated that glazing significantly decreased the flexural strength and flexural displacement of the zirconia specimens.
Aim:To evaluate the effect of surface microtopography on osteogenic cell behavior. Materials and methods: Commercially pure grade II titanium discs of similar design and dimensions (2.5 mm × 6 mm) were selected for the study. Samples were sandblasted using 110 μm grit-size alumina (Al 2 O 3 ), and 15% hydrofluoric acid (HF), 96% sulphuric acid (H 2 SO 4 ), and 37% hydrochloric acid (HCl) were used for acid etching. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) of samples was performed to observe the surface morphology and elemental analysis. Surface roughness was measured using a surface profilometer. Human osteosarcoma (HOS) cells were seeded at a density of 5 × 10 3 per test material and control cover slip and incubated for 48 hours. After critical point drying and gold sputtering, a scanning electron microscope was used to observe the cell morphology, proliferation, and cell attachment. Results: Scanning electron microscopy revealed that sandblasting and acid etching resulted in a homogeneous rough surface with a flatter profile. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed a significant increase in the oxygen content (29.38%) after sandblasting and acid etching. Conclusion: Scanning electron microscopy result of the sandblasted and acid-etched surface showed that cell sheets were able to migrate into the pores and adhered inside the valleys suggesting excellent sign of osseointegration.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
