Inspiriert von östlichen und westlichen monastischen Vorbildern suchten im 5. und zu Beginn des 6. Jahrhunderts Männer und allmählich auch Frauen in den Wäldern des südlichen Juragebirges nach der vollkommenen Lebensweise. Trotz ihres Rückzugsideals waren sie in ein umfassendes soziales und literarisches Netzwerk eingebunden – Beten, Arbeiten und Vernetzen prägten ihren Alltag. Die Studie analysiert die Verbindungen der frühen Juramönche und -nonnen zu anderen monastischen Bewegungen, legt ihre Beziehungen zu Menschen verschiedenster gesellschaftlicher Stellung offen und deckt bisher verborgene gesellschafts- und kirchenpolitische Zusammenhänge auf. Dadurch wird deutlich, dass zu ihrem Lebensideal eine asketische Grundhaltung, karitative Betätigung, vernetzte Bildung und politisches Engagement gehörten.
This article analyzes the recent data protection reform of the European Union (EU). It introduces the drivers of the reform, in particular by looking at a few seminal judgments of the Court of Justice of the EU. Against this backdrop, the article highlights the key changes that the new General Data Protection Regulation brings about, assesses their implications, and seeks to situate them in the wider context of the digital economy and its governance, in particular with regard to the free cross-border flow of data.
