Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI; concussion) impacts millions annually and is linked to a host of emotional, cognitive, and physical challenges that have the potential to undermine the stability and quality of close relationships. Despite the high prevalence of mTBI, studies of relationship adjustment following brain injury have almost entirely focused on more severe forms of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The present study sought to contribute to this critical gap in the literature by examining the impact of mTBI on the relationship satisfaction of individuals recovering from mTBI. Individuals (N = 30) involved in current romantic relationships were recruited from a suburban emergency department (ED) during their visit for injuries related to mTBI. Self-report measures of mTBI symptoms and relationship satisfaction were administered at baseline (within 2 weeks of injury), assessing retrospective functioning prior to injury, and again assessing functioning 1-month after the mTBI. No significant changes were observed from baseline to 1-month postinjury on indices of relationship satisfaction. However, linear regression analyses indicated that 1-month ratings of mTBI symptoms demonstrated significant cross-sectional associations with romantic relationship satisfaction, while controlling for retrospective ratings of satisfaction prior to injury. Greater initial mTBI symptoms were also related to decreases in relationship satisfaction 1-month postinjury. These findings suggest that mTBI may be a risk factor for decreases in relationship satisfaction if the symptoms do not abate.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a topic of major relevance as the current Brazilian legislation, through BIM BR Strategy -a governmental plan establishing that such technology should be used in the execution of engineering works and services, forcing contractors to adapt to the new reality. In the Brazilian market, the difficulty in attesting the efficient use of BIM is linked to the lack of a certificate to guarantee the services provided by Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operation (AECO) professionals. The purpose of this study is to create an evaluation model for certification (CUB-e), so that companies can attest the level of BIM in which they operate. For doing so, surveys and researches were carried out through interviews in technical visits to institutions that already operate in BIM, in order to obtain information on the current level of application of the technology in the job market.
An ultra-fast method for the simultaneous determination of heavy metals in Passiflora incarnata tea by capillary electrophoresis (CE) using a short-end injection combined with multivariate analysis was proposed. Separation was conducted by hydrodynamic injection (5 s at 0.5 psi) using the short-end injection procedure in a fused uncoated silica capillary (50 cm total length, 10.2 cm effective length, 50 µm i.d.) with separation time less than 2 min. An indirect UV detection at 214 nm was employed by using imidazole as a chromophore. The buffer used was 6 mmol/L hydroxybutyric acid (HIBA). The optimum conditions by full factorial with a central point were achieved by 18-crown-6 concentration (23.3 mmol L−1), voltage (+11.4 kV), methanol concentration (3.8%), and temperature (20 °C). The method showed good linearity (R2 > 0.998) for both Cd and Pb, inter-day precision of less than 14.49%, and an adequate limit of quantification only for Cd (LOQ < 0.5 µg mL−1 for Cd) based on the US Pharmacopeial Convention limit requirements for elemental impurities. After method validation, the method was applied to Passiflora incarnata tea samples from a local market. Furthermore, the developed method showed great potential for the determination of metals in other samples with proper sample preparation procedures.
