This paper presents the application of fuzzy logic active control of surge in constant speed centrifugal compressors based on the Moore-Greitzer (MG) model. A compression system equipped with a close-coupled valve (CCV) and a throttle control valve (TCV) is investigated. Two fuzzy controllers are developed, one for each valve. The combination of the two valves proves helpful in suppressing surge and assists in overcoming the drawbacks of each valve when it is used individually. A case-based switching mechanism is developed for the compressor with both valves that stabilizes the system for various operating conditions, and extends the stable range well beyond the surge line.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
