The branching ratio I /I~, has been measured for the 15.11-MeV 1+ T = 1 state in "C. The result is I /I, "l = (4.1 + 0.9)%, in agreement with one previous measurement and in disagreement with another. The result was obtained by direct observation of the decay a particles from the reaction "C('He, a)"Ca 3a. The data are consistent with a sequential decay via the first excited state of 'Be.The 3a breakup of the 1+ T = 0 state at F. "=12. 71 MeV was also studied. The data in both cases were fitted with a model in which the a-a final state interaction was treated as a simple Breit-signer resonance; order-of-emission interference effects were included. If the (isospin-forbidden) a width is interpreted as resulting from mixing between the two 1+ states via a charge-dependent interaction, a large isospin-violating matrix element is involved.

QCD K ± distribution to the nonperturbative region.A useful analytical approximation to Eq. (11), valid for a constant, is given byBessel function. This result was derived earlier in Ref. 4. Equation (17) gives the same (k ± ) and (kj 2 ) as the original distribution (11).In conclusion, we have presented a general formalism for quark and gluon jets and their k ± distributions. A successful analysis of singlehadron k ± distributions at SPEAR (Q = 3-7.8 GeV) indicates a rather smooth extrapolation of QCD for predictions to the nonperturbative region as also found 5 for the total cross section.

Lifetimes of levels in ' V have been measured using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. States were populated with the fi(0(, p) V reaction at a beam energy of 10 MeV. Protons were detected near 180 relative to the beam and most Doppler shifts were measured between y spectra accumulated at 8"=S3 and 140'. Values or limits were obtained for the mean lifetimes of 25 levels in "V from 748 to 2812 keV in excitation energy. The positive parity levels appear to form two rotational bands with and z . The first 2 MeV of the negative parity level scheme is reproduced rather well with calculations using the strong coupling model. This model also predicts the transition strengths reasonably well. These results suggest strong collective behavior in the states of both parities.NUCLEAR REACTIONS 6Ti(c). , Py), E~=10 MeV; measured Doppler-shift attenuation.
