Los empleados públicos, profesores universitarios están sometidos a múltiples presiones durante su actividad laboral, el manejo de grandes volúmenes de actividades, la sobrecarga y condición de contractual; son factores que trastocan su desempeño laboral. Por ello, reviste significado el propósito de Analizar los factores que generan estrés en empleados públicos universitarios de nombramiento y contratados de la Escuela de Enfermería en la Universidad de Guayaquil caracterizando su incidencia en su desempeño laboral, el cual, se constituyó en el objetivo de esta investigación. Metodológicamente, se enmarca en un enfoque cuantitativo (positivista), con diseño de carácter no experimental, bajo la modalidad investigación de campo, tipo descriptiva, de corte transversal. La población estuvo representada por 526 docentes, con una muestra de 97 docentes de la Carrera de Enfermería en la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de la Universidad de Guayaquil. La técnica de recolección de datos fue la observación directa y la encuesta y como instrumentos se empleó el cuestionario y el cuaderno de notas. El análisis de los resultados se realizó utilizando estadísticas descriptivas a través de un análisis cuantitativo. Los resultados reflejan que el 78% de la muestra encuestada son docentes contratados, condición que se convierte en un estresor dado que un 39% de la muestra considera que la estabilidad laboral influye en el desempeño como docente. Se concluye que en el personal académico universitario que labora en la Carrera de Enfermería de esta universidad se manifiestan como estresores la inestabilidad laboral, el desconocimiento del régimen de escalafón y del proceso de recategorización, dado que no conocer los mecanismos para participar en estos procesos les genera estrés afectando su desempeño laboral.
